How do you feel about last year NOW?

My hat is NOT tin foil...nice try

it's Saran Wrap

That Super Bowl still bothers me because I know we didn't play as well as we could have and should have. I give the Jints credit. They came ready to play, but the best game they could have possibly still pretty much sucked.

Meanwhile, the Pats played about the WORST they could have possibly played and still had a lead with 2 minutes to go!

There is no way that Giants team belonged on the same field with us then or now! (Hey, I kind of sound like a 2001 Rams' fan, don't I!)

All in all, though, I am thrilled to be a fan of such successful franchise and sports town.

But, whether you admit or not, you (and I) will always have an ache for what 2007 could have been. Our boys decided to go flat on the day we could made history and that will never go away!

Pretty much 100% nails it.

I had a nightmare the other night, that the Pats had become the Bills of the 21st century, but with a twist: they kept having undefeated regular seasons and then lost in the Super Bowl.

That'd be something.

the patriots ultimately fell to a fluke.

the play might have been a 'fluke,' but 'the patriots ultimately fell' to a team that did what Bill Belichick says that winners do: they make a big play when the game is on the line. it might be brilliantly executed, it might be lucky or it might be a fluke, but they make the play.

I dont think the Tyree catch was the fluke, its not that hard to catch a football (cough, assante, cough) I just think the entire Giants run was a fluke.

you sound like a Rams' fan in 2002.

We've won 3 Super Bowls since 2001 ... not knocking people but really ... all this get over it stuff ... enjoy the game, enjoy the team. I think we'll win at least one more before Brady hangs them up ... it's all good.

There are many good players and coaches out there. We don't have a monopoly on playing or coaching. The Giants kicked our butt for most of the day ... they deserved it and I hope they enjoy it.

Pretty much says it all...:agree:

Naw, I'm a patriots fan. In 2002, I was a patriots fan. In 1999 I was a patriots fan. In 1998 I was a...ok, you get it.

Anytime SB highlights are shown on TV I still turn the channel...

I once tussled with a Rams fan online, him insisting the Rams were the better team, and me that the definition must apply to the team that stood up when it counted. So I must swallow my pride and say the Giants were the best team last year, or else be a hypocrite.

I have done well with my self-imposed "blackout", so none of last year's business seems particularly real to me. I don't buy into the "defending champion" concept either, so this year is a clean slate, no matter what the mediots and standard-issue idiots might say.

Summary: I'm good!

What do I think about last year?

A epic failure. 16-0 it all means nothing, it was incredible and just having such a good team that seemed destined to be 19-0 and SB Champs choke when all they had to do was hang on for what? 4 minutes tops?

I've moved on, time for this season but I am getting sick of seeing the Patriots fail the last three years. At least I've seen the worst of it, no sports loss ever again will be near as upsetting.

We had better win the Super Bowl this year. Theres no excuses as we have a perfectly capable team.

Two things about last season upset me and reduced the pleasure I get from following football: the vindictiveness and paranoia unleashed after the signal taping episode and the outrageous refereeing bias shown in favour of the Colts (not just against the Patriots).

The Superbowl? It was a football game that the team I root for lost. So what?

I'm proud of what we did last year. Even those biatches the 72 Dolphins never went 18-0 so they have no business talking any crap.

I HATE - understand HATE - the '72 Dolphins and all the whiny arse Fin Fans down here in SoFla.

I LOVE - understand LOVE - the Pats. A lifelong obsession for me.

That said, the 2007 Patriots have no business comparing themselves to the 1972 Dolphins and you already know why:

THE FISH CLOSED THE DEAL!

They won the trophy.

They got the rings.

The Pats did not.

End of story.

I am more proud of the 2001, 2003 & 2004 Patriots than I am of the 2007 team.

The '07 team belongs right next to the '86 & '96 Pats.

Great teams. Great talent. Strong regular seasons. Impressive playoff runs. Lost the Super Bowl.

So true. The NFLN was showing a replay of it the other night and I deleted from my TiVO "To Be Recorded" list. I HATE that game. Can't watch it.

I don't think much of last year at all. There is no part of me that is happy about it. I would have rather gone 9-7 and won the super bowl. In fact, I would rather have gone 9-7, and had Brady go 10 for 30 in the super bowl with three picks, but ended up winning the game because Manning was worse.

Last year means a whole lot of nothing to me. I was repeatedly shouted down for saying this last year, but I never gave a crap about 19-0, other than the fact that if the team had done it it would have won the super bowl. Sure, it would have been fine, but I never cared much.

Now when I look back at the year, the fact that the team won its first 18 games just makes the 19th harder to take, not easier. The records are awesome. I'm really happy about those individual accomplishments. And the games were fun while they were happening, and it was great while it lasted. But other than that, in terms of history, Patriots 2007 are not much special to me -- they are just like the other two teams that finished 18-1 for the year, except not really because the other two won the super bowl.

I don't mean this as a sign of disrespect, but although the 2007 Patriots had an astounding season, they are in the same book as the 1998 Vikings for me personally; all the talent in the world, but couldn't get it done in the end.

However, it is fair to say that the media crap that arose in the days prior to the game probably had something to do with the loss.

Honestly, it's hard to be upbeat about this season. Last year the Pats had everything going right for them, SF gave them a top 10 pick and outside of Sammy Morris there were no major injuries! As for the big game loss, I thought 6 months would be enough time to heal, but the SB still seems like a couple of weeks ago. The Pats couldn't have dreamed of a better scenario with the Colts and Cowboys knocked out early and getting to feast on lesser San Diego and New York. Like someone else said, win the damn Super Bowl, and then I'll feel relieved. Sounds crazy doesn't it?

As for this year, beating Indy will always seem like a crazy feat. Will our secondary hold up against Manning this year? I don't know. Our secondary reminds me of the 2005 one, lots of question marks. If we are to win it all this year, we will have to take down Indy, who is going to be as good or better than last year. Lots of work to be done, I'm cautiously optimistic. I think we are in the mix, but I think the separation gap has narrowed considerably.

I don't see why - the 2008 Patriots could be one of the great redemption stories in NFL history. They are well-equipped to have a 14-2 or 15-1 season, and if they dominate in the playoffs then they could go down as the greatest Patriot team, if not one of the greatest NFL teams of all-time.

19-0 would have been awesome last year but let's not forget that the 2007 Pats limped to the finish line. The 2008 edition could be something truly great from beginning to end.

EDIT: Wouldn't it be great to see the Pats roll in a Super Bowl for once?

I feel awful and will always feel awful until we go 19-0, and even then I'll still be bummed. It's ridiculous that we lost that game. Not to say I'm not psyched for football and ready to watch this team again, but I'll never really be over it.
