8. I don’t think Bill Belichick would ever do it, but given the struggles of the team developing defensive backs, it’s worth mentioning – Eric Mangini remains on the coaching market. Some of Mangini’s best work came with Patriots defensive backs.

Only a little bit more likely than me becoming a coach on BB's staff (and that's only because I have no experience).

• He left being the DC to become the HC of the Jets (and i think BB would have said anywhere but there).
  
• He tried to take some coaches with him.
  
• He fired a bullet by turning in the video guy. Now i believe this was intended as a little rub against BB, but it turned into the #$@!storm that became spygate. While, i don't think Mangini thought much would happen, that's theproblem with firing bullets. If it hurts someone even by accident, you're still the guy that fired it.
  
• And as posted above, he won't be a position coach and he won't get the DC position at this time.

The rest of your post I agree with (especially the bit about Mangini just trying to play mindgames with BB and having it blown up in his face. Someone gave me a 3rd hand report that this was told to a friend of theirs who I know has regular face time with Kraft.)

But this part I don't agree with. I don't think Belichick would ever begrudge an employee leaving for another team. The thing that probably upsets BB the most that Mangini did was try to get people to come with him on the plane back after the 2006 loss.

His best do over shot remains KC, who lost out on Josh whom they probably needed more than a DC to free up RAC to be HC for a while. Not sure how Pioli views him, but he and RAC remained friends throughout spygate and even when Eric replaced him in Cleveland RAC stayed on his staff - when Pioli reportedly wanted him even then.

Even if Bill were to forgive and forget, which I seriously dount happens before he's retired if ever, I don't think Bob or Jonathan would tolerate it because of the damage caused to their brand. Like someone said, unintended consequences are a biatch.

I hope he doesn't go to KC because I find it nice to have another AFC team to cheer for, except when they play or threaten the Patriots. I'd have to turn them into mortal enemies if the Rat was on their sidelines.

And, you're right about the brand damage. Living outside of New England, I can tell you that it will be years before the brand recovers beyond the franchise's home base.

Bill also reportedly told Eric two thiings. You're not ready (at which Eric's ego scoffed, some say he believed Bill was actually ascared of him proving he was an equal if not superior coaching genius) and you don't go there (again Eric interpreted this as being ascared of competing against him as opposed to it's a career suicide move).

Eric was something of a schematic savant, but he had some warts tied to an inflated self image and an abrasive demeanor when potentially given control or authority. He lacked humility. He's been humbled to an extent, but the latent warts possibly remain dormant just beneath the surface. Won't know 'til he's autopsied... Ergo he is dead to this organization.

Something...that's as good a word as any for it... The man resigned on a ****tail napkin the day they named him HC...and their GM at the time attempted to spin that as someone with mental problems probably having some sort of breakdown...

I believe and buy the part about a mind-game "prank" blowing up in Mangenius' face, but one of the first things I had to learn the hard way as an adult in the business world was that "actions can have unintended consequences and you will be held responsible for them." So, no slack for the rat on that one.

Disagree on part of your second point. BB has always made it a policy to support and encourage his coordinators to pursue career opportunities elsewhere after they've given him whatever time they shook hands on at the beginning of their relationship, but it has been widely and universally reported in the media for many years that he has a "No Divisional Opponent" exception to that policy, and I have no reason to believe that isn't the case. BB was reported to be furious when Mangini went to the Jets.

Its not that he went to the Jets because they are a rival, its because BB gave him personal advise that it was a bad decision to go there because ownership is screwed up.
BB didn't not want Mangini to go a rival, he felt that his friend/protege was making a poor decision, and the protege dismissed the advice. Remember, BB walked from the chance to BB HC of NYJ for the exact reasons he told Mangini to walk away. And while BB ended up here, there was no certainty he would get another offer when the declined the job in NJ.

I think it's pretty unlikely that BB would take Mangini back, but what if Mangini was best for the team? What would Bill do then? Swallow his pride? Probably not, I suppose. One things is certain, Mangini's defenses were great. He and BB were a very effective pair and, who knows, maybe that's why BB fought so hard to keep him?

Where has it been widely reported that he has a rule against going to a divisional opponent? I've never read that.
The issue was first BB gave his advise and Mangini dismissed it. And second, the unwritten rule that you do not poach assistants.
Then came spygate.

I don't buy the best for the team thing though. Mangini was a product of BB. BB taught him literally everything he knows. You don't need to bring back someone you taught everything they know to improve your team.

That just it, I dont think it has been widely reported.
There is a stereotypical belief that decisions are always factored by 'in the division' but in reality I don't think there is much to it, especially with BB.
If not for Bledsoe, people would still be saying "BB would never trade within the division" because people like to assign their personal beliefs to BB and pretend they are his, but clearly BB doesn't believe in that one either.
