Hopkins Headed to Tennessee

Both would make good second option TEs if we still had Gronk. Henry is what they wanted from Chandler in 2015 (but not at the level of Bennet was he was healthy in 2016). Henry is a competent starter and does adequately…if they had a real stud out there drawing doubles he’d be more efficient. He’s an average starting TE, which makes him one of the 20 best TEs on the planet, which is impressive from that standpoint. From another standpoint, he’s playing against linebackers and safeties who are also among the top players on the planet. They also are good enough to play defense at an all-world NFL level. Henry lacks the speed (Waller), maneuverability (Kelce), and raw power (Kittle) to separate himself from the pack in any single ability. He does everything adequately but it stops there.

Fans are going to turn on Gesicki quickly. He’s the guy who is always “almost a breakout player” as he has the size and athleticism but something is off with his intangibles. It’s like he was born with a TE body but without any instincts and is playing the wrong sport. Hard to explain but it will make sense when he gets some playing time.
You’re a negative nancy hype man, you don’t provide anything original or an opinion of your own. You just show up, stroke Kontra or All3Phases/Folly’s balls and you’re out.

You’re like Flavor Flav with less talent…

That’s an odd response to a post whereby I provided only original opinions of my own…like all of my posts.

I can tell you’re hurting.

We can conclude you’re not only disingenuous but cowardly for ducking the Kyle Pitts question for ten days then reappearing and insisting I provide you with a list.

Again you’re a con man, a BS artist. Gesicki and Henry both qualify as great TE’s who have played in sub optimal conditions. You won’t even admit Marcus Mariota sucks and that’s why Kyle Pitts production tanked in 2022. Laughable…

I take it you’re too ignorant/lazy to know Pitts suffered an MCL injury in wk 11 and missed the rest of the season? Yes Mariota sucks and was a reason for Pitts low production. Pitts had s terrible year all around with QB, injuries, and out of sync. Every GM in the league would still take him over Henry.

This post actually came from a grown man.

Apologies, folks. Next time I travel with my family before summer ends and they go back to school, I’ll make sure I log on to PatsFans.com to keep arguing with NPCs.

You can’t tell what day it is.

Universal Studios is producing a movie based on Wozzy’s 10 day wait for your response. The Long Pause. Dramatic psychoanalytic study of a heroic man awaiting the answer to his Kyle Pitts question.

He had 300 yards in eleven games genius and they shut him down when he was cleared to play because he was publicly growing disgusted with the offense.

I’ll see you both in two weeks or so when people have forgotten the question and Kontra comes back with more requests.

He thought he ate in this thread.

Day 10 and you’re still dodging a very simple question.
It’s football, dude. Why are you getting so worked up?

What even was your question anyway? I’ll answer it since I don’t think Pitts is a “great” TE, either. If your question is based on the belief that I called him a “great TE,” then it’s a straw man.

Back to topic.....
And remember, "NE wasn't close" on D Hop money

Using this method to keep the bonus hit low and a low base salary in the first year allowed the Titans to keep Hopkins hit against the salary cap down to a low $3.6 million.

Looking at the guaranteed money and the structure of the deal, this is truly a one-year deal for $10.9 million for the Titans, if things go poorly. They owe Hopkins $10.9 million in cash in year one, but have the ability to cut him prior to the start of the NFL's 2024 year next March with minimal damage due to Hopkins having no guaranteed money left on the deal after the first season.

A real NFL executive like Eliot Wolf must be eating his hat right now in frustration.

I hope he & Jonathan have been talking without the other two and have already started making plans post-Shula...

We let Meyers walk over 1m? Only to give the same 13 million to JJSS?
That's not true - even though it was the "hawt take." Look at their contracts side-by-side. They didn't get the same money - JJSS got less.

The deal is, Bill/Bob/Patriots have set that standard though. People in Boston and Pats fans throughout the U.S. expect a competitive team. They are the most winningest franchise in the last 20+ years and are tied for the most Lombardi's, so it shouldn't be acceptable to start slipping especially while Bill is here. Things have become more difficult now because they don't have competent QB play.

The Lakers are a great example. Out here in SoCal, Lakers fans do not tolerate bad seasons and the organization understands that (except under Jim Buss). There is a standard that has been set and they do what they have to do to become competitive year in and year out.
Yeah, but the NFL ain't the NBA. It's rare when you can buy a legitimate, let alone great, QB, adn even then, it's a huge risk because of hte hard salary cap.

The Patriots have $110M in cap space for 2024, 10M more than any other team. The other teams in that range are the Bears, Texans, Titans and Commanders.

Looks like the Patriots are falling into the dreaded 3 year cycle of huge free agency spending for a paper tiger shot at a wild card followed by two years of decline, rinse and repeat, like some other teams. Not developing their own talent or just letting it go (Thuney) and passing on these types of trades are the reason they'll again be setting a free agency frenzy record while Team Bill gushes about the ludicrously overpriced jags they sign.

It's time for a new GM. Bill is still a good Xs and Os coach other than his ****ty short distance risk:reward philosophy that costs the team games. But given his influence over the org an autonomous GM would never work.
This Patriots team is WAY better than the one to which they signed all those free agents.

They need to re-sign a few guys to second contracts and let their draft picks mature. The cap space will be used to do that, and they can add a piece or two easily. in 2021, they were essentially trying to rebuild the entire roster. They've probably got 3/4's of their starting 2025 roster on the team right now, and it's a really good group.
