The Pats didn't have to trade him. They could have let him hold out, collected all his fines, used him for the stretch run, then traded or franchised him.

Maybe they'll do that to the next guy just to shock him.

No matter what happens this season, having Branch come in for the stretch run would have been detrimental to the organization. I'm glad BB made a move now and got a good deal as well.

As much as I wanted him here, he was going to be a headache for the next 10 weeks... He did not want to be here, ship him to seattle, and move on
