From what I saw Hill held his ground and mostly controlled his gaps along the line. He is obviously very stong at the point of attack. He seems stiff and is clearly not very nimble but might turn into a good run stuffer. I wonder if he might make a better nose tackle in the future?

Only if he can put on about 50-75 pounds.

Seymour represents NT depth, right? Used to play a good deal of NT, correct?

Seymour: 6'6" 310
Hill: 6'6" 300

I think Hill already around 310 and thats without being fat. I'm more concerned about whether he can play low and use those long arms to keep blockers off his body. Nose tackle may be the only way he sees the field. Now if we can only get him to tuck his jersey in to his pants.

IMHO, Hill would need the extra heft to partially counteract the flaws in his game.

I don't think he projects well at the nose personally--but he does have the size (although maybe not the build). I was encouraged by some of what he showed yesterday--very active and starting to show some chippiness.

hill supposedly fast

hill sure looked a lot better than he did in the preseason. i was despairing after i saw how unskilled he looked after a full season and 2 sets of minicamps.

he had 40 times consistently below 5 seconds in combine. he may be fast but he certainly doesn't seem to be quick. it's not clear known what he can do until he learns to protect himself from blocks, stand up the OT, and move up and down the line of scrimmage. hard to believe hill is a lou saban player. looks like they pulled him off the track team (shotput, disc) in his senior year.

The kid was drafted as a project. Sometimes projects work out and sometimes they don't.

I think that next season will be the big test for him- make or break. If if he does come along - he could be a real gem- worth the time and effort.

Hill's biggest weakness is he isn't getting to play reglarly so he can apply and refine the techniques he is learning. Unlike Jarvis Green, he seems to need to get into the flow of the game before he starts hitting his pace. He seems to be another Ty Warren - slower off the snap, but a force at the point of attack and capable of driving the blocker back into the pocket.

Watching Hill driving the linemen back made me think that he could be effective as a nose tackle. Nothing screws up a offense more than having the center driven back two yards or so. Besides playing nose would cover up some of his slowness. He is somewhat tall for the nose position and may have trouble playing low.

He is the same size as the nose tackle we had in 2001 and he did pretty well.

Worry less about the tape measure and how the guy plays. You don't win matchups 6'5" to 6'6".
