He's dropped some balls and our third best blocker at TE, but youngest guy in NFL will get stronger and improve blocking over next couple years and will be one of best TE in league for years to come. Love him and the Gronk for next five years!!!!

Crumpler is the blocking specialist
Hernandez is the receiving specialist.

The team will mix and match based upon the opponent.

That was a HORRIBLE throw on Brady's part. It was well in front of Hernandez and at his knees. If he contorts himself to catch that he probably gets tackled for a loss before he can regain his balance. On a screen Brady needs to throw it so his guy can immediately take off and he didn't do that. The only play Hernandez had was to try to catch it with his fingertips.

It's remarkable how that TE corps alone gives the offense so many different looks and options. I'm very glad Crumpler signed a 2-year deal, I'm looking forward to seeing all three of them in ever-changing combinations for many games to come.

OT: the post editor keeps insisting that combinations is not a word. But "combos" is ok. That's just sad.

He is a bit of prima donna, drops too many passes. When he was at Florida and they roll over teams by 50 drops don't count. In the NFL a drop on first down is a drive killer.

He needs to "get it", if he does then look out. He is someone opponent have to game plan for.

I am waiting for the 3 TE sets and then the Patriots split him wide against a LB, can yo say touchdown?

he was the pats best receiver the first half of the season so now teams are just covering him better. and brady will pretty much stop going to guys that drop the ball in a game

Big tight ends were obviously crucial to the game plan against Pitt, just look at Reiss's snap count, Gronk leads the way.

Personally, I think Gronk will get another huge game against the Colts, considering that the only options for covering him are all basically either under 6'1'' or under 210 pounds. He'll dominate that matchup either way.

Not to sure about this. I think this game plan for the TE's will be focused more on Hernandez. I think Gronk will be very valuable and used often when the Pats get in the red zone though.

Different opponents call for different personnel utilization due to match-ups. Simple as that and nothing else, in my opinion, needs to be read into it.

:singing: he's fine. i trust BB and the coaches to use him when the situation calls for it. it is what the pats are all about- situational football that changes better and faster than any other team. i believe thats why they can win with rookies , cast-offs from other teams, and so-called second tier players- face it, the pats have the best head coach in football-now and maybe of all time.

The pats needed to be more physical against the steelers.

don't think its the rookie wall, but spacing their game time a bit will have the rookies be fresher come playoff time.

Relax, Hernandez isn't going to drop off the face of the planet after a couple drops, in Cleveland before the Steelers game he had 2 Touchdowns and had one of his best games of the year, they released randy moss because they have faith in players like Hernandez.

The Patriots struck gold in this draft in their 2 tight ends enough so that they can totally change the face of the offense. Hernandez is a tight end with the skillset of a wideout, he cannot be covered by a linebacker, so he creates a mismatch for teams who dont have alot of secondary depth.

However, the gameplan against the Steelers was to use both tight ends as pass blockers and force their rush linebackers to turn into pass defenders as they would sneak out of the back like gronkowski, welker would be double covered and branch would draw his own coverage, BJGE could also block or be a pass-catching option which you saw, in the end, this combination of unlikely pass catchers neutralized the steelers pass rush and blitz.

against the colts, Tom Brady will be able to hear the what is going on around him better, and he will have the comfort in the pocket he always plays better at home because of this and i expect a bigger role for hernandez.
