I didn't think it was that bad a column and seems to be a legitimate question

I agree with this sentiment. I'm not trying to imply Belichick isn't a great coach. However the sustained success of the Patriots more closely correlates with the emergence of Brady than the arrival of Belichick.

Is it coincidence that a Belichick team led by Bledsoe (who was no slouch) went 5-13 during that tenure and then when Brady took over immediately went on to go 15-3 and win a title in the process? Do we remember that Belichick was the owner of 1 winning season as a head coach prior to Brady and since then has yet to have a losing season?

Coldhardfootballfacts.com makes the assertion that Brady is the most important player in the history of the NFL in terms of his impact on his Franchise.

Bledsoe was a slouch at this time 2000/2001 and beyond. The playbook, schemes and gameplans change when Brady started playing. The coaches put Brady in position to succeed, as he wasn't the HOF QB he is now back in 2001.

"Let's see...would you say the same thing about Red Auerbach and Bill Russell?? Sorry maybe before your lifetime.."

As 99% of the members here say "Who?"

Hate to say it, but you have to face the fact that BB's coaching record is not good without Brady. What is unfair about this article?
What was Noll's record without Bradshaw? What was Walsh's record without Montana? What was Dungy's record without Manning?

This is the approach that Pats-haters are taking:

1. if the Pats succeed, Brady must be overrated
2. if the Pats fail, BB must be overrated

It's terribly unfair to BB to try to make this season some referendum on his career. It's not like he has a pre-season to prepare for life without TB. It's not like he had TB's cap money to spend elsewhere.

The football QB is the most important player in US team sports. Of course he will be missed, and no Pats fan would ever say otherwise. BB's been pushed into this situation suddenly and will have to deal with it on the fly.

I still think the Pats make the playoffs (the schedule helps), but winning in playoffs will be tough.

No. Those are the numbers. They are not wrong. You are wrong.

The question is certainly a valid one.

If the pats stink again, without Brady. I think it says a lot.

Belichick inherited a 3-13 team in Cleveland. He had 6-6-7-11 win seasons while suffering through the fallout from an unpopular but right decision to release Kosar even though Testaverde wasn't healthy yet.

His last year, the jerk owner moved the always sold out team.

Do the "Belichick was nothing without Brady" people ever meet the "Parcells was nothing without Belichick" people?

I imagine an argument would end up with their brain circuits frying like that robot in Lost in Space.

Does not compute, does not compute!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Bledsoe made the pro bowl after he left the Pats. I'm not saying he was an elite QB back in 2000/2001 but he wasn't a scrub. He still was probably a top 15 QB at the time.
