Is Henry Anderson still out there? I never hear one thing about him. Am I not reading the right places?

Does he have a chance to make the team?

Prolly didn’t need to be a separate thread but…Anderson seemed to be making some plays during the first week of TC but has been quiet overall. He’s still out there every day, though.

I believe he's been at DE when in a 4-3 or 4-2...I think on the left. He's been making some plays but IMO not enough.

EDIT: I have been corrected. He's a DE in a 3-4.

I'd be shocked if that's the case as he's 6'6'' 300 pounds. He's an end in a 3 man front.

One reason I did is that the new rule says three veteran players who don't have to go on waivers can be stashed on the practice squad.

The Patriots reworked Anderson's contract, so he fits perfectly with that rule.

I think that's the plan for Anderson and maybe a few other vets.

Sort of a shadow roster that's being overlooked.

I could be mistaken then...my bad. Look...I'm a Special Teams Only poster but I'm trying. I'm going back to emojis and attempts at funny memes.
Nah, keep posting whatever you feel like.

I think Anderson has been mentioned a few times and has made some plays.

On the other hand I have not heard a single mention of Lawrence Guy. I assume he was held out for the Giants game. Maybe he is just one of the players who just gets on with the job and goes unnoticed by the media guys and their tweets.

I like Anderson. He seems to have a high floor. I feel like he gives a consistent respectable run defense and that is more important than a pass rush. Our run defense has been a problem that we haven't really fixed in years imo. We look competent at times but those little yards add up and are the reason teams have so many 3rd and shorts against us. Anderson's height may also lead to more batted balls.

I have not heard a lot about Anderson this summer, in fact I have him on the outside looking in, but I just read a piece written by Lazar(posted in Wednesday's practice thread) where he says he's the top option after Wise on the D-line and Lazar seems to think he's playing well and will make the team. Interesting take. I think most people at this point believe Ray is going to make the team, it's more of a question between Anderson, Pharms, Roberts and Davis. They don't exactly all play the same position but with only a few spots open, it will be interesting to see who makes it.

There are a lot of variables that go into this.
We play nickel base both as a 3-4ish and 4-3ish alignment.
In many seasons it was almost exclusively 4-3ish with 2 big DTs and 2 DE/OLBs. There is no role for Wise or Anderson in that base.
We have been using the 3-4 ish more often lately where a DE/OLB is replaced by a Wise or Anderson “34 DE type”.
While naturally the quality of the Wise type guy has a lot to do with the decision, it also makes the LB responsibilities very different. Being able to use both frequently when you have Hightower, KVN, etc is different than when you have less versatile guys. The short version being KVN could okay edge or off the ball as could HT but we don’t necessarily have those guys.
So as the LB group changes the scheme addd adapts and the 34 DE roles usage will change.
The all adds up to keeping Anderson and/or another 34 DE type like Ray has a lot do with other players and how other position groups shake out. It could be a heavily used role, or it could be almost non existent.

Don't really understand the rule but if that's the case, stash Anderson, Ferentz and Davis or Ekuale.

The rule benefits veterans who do not have to go through waivers, so they can stay with the team on the practice squad and be promoted game day for the first six weeks. I'm not sure the seniority status of those other players you mention, but I'm inclined to think they would have to go through waivers.

The other consideration is cap loss. Anderson's contract is written, so there is no loss to the team or player. That's why I think he's a candidate.

I am not completely sure I read this rule correctly. I'm not sure the people covering the team understand it, so it's just my analysis. Don't take it as the verified truth. It's one reason for the thread. Who else knows?

So I interpret that as they can be cut but opt to stay with the team on PS rather than be subject to pick up by another team.

I don’t think you read it correctly. I can’t fathom that the NFLPA would allow teams to cut a player and put them on practice squad pay without other teams being able to sign them.
Practice squad players are also able to be signed by any team at any time, the team they are on the practice squad of has no rights to them if another teams wants to put them on the 53.

I never said the player couldn't sign with another team. I said the player didn't have to go through waivers.

This strategy has to be agreed on by both player and team. Of course, the player is free to sign with any team, but I don't see why this wouldn't work for Anderson at this stage of his career.
