I am a fan of your team as well as my fav, Colts. I thought it will be fun this season posting on both boards to try and make the season more exciting. I am all over the message boards talking football. That is what some of us live for it seems. With that said...

Are the Colts a good bet to repeat as SuperBowl Champions?

Obviously a very difficult task and what about the AFC Division even. Seems since NE picked up Moss, many have already handed the trophy back to your team, our biggest rival. Colts are actually 3rd choice behind NE & SD, friends.

Odds to win Superbowl 2008: To win AFC conference

Thanks, Best of luck to New England and let's have a great season, PATS & COLTS!

BTW, In my opinion, I hope the Colts go for the un-defeated season.

:rocker:

no.

bye.

I would put SD behind Indy. They just imploded during the playoffs.

No the Colts are not a good bet to repeat, but no team is.

I would put a tremendous amount of money on it that the Colts don't even make it to the SB, let alone win.

History as proven again and again that teams that needed a ton of things to go right (NE in 2001, Giants in 2000, Cats in 2003) rarely even make it back to the playoffs the following year. I think Indy is better than that, but they were not a SB caliber team last year. Put another way, Indy would have been annihilated by either Pitt of 2004 or Philly of 2004. They just had the good fortune of running up against only one really good team at their worst possible time.

I don't think they will repeat honestly either. Just so darn hard and you guys are standing in the way for sure. Thanks for the responses. Cannot wait till we meet up again. Hopefully Adam will not miss any FG's either in 07/08,

I don't think SD will do as well this season.

That's tough love. The Colts had a HARD path and they got thru it in a variety of ways showing so many ways that they can win now. They didn't even have to depend on Manning as much during the run to the SB. Everyone seemingly had big roles and made the plays. Manning just a piece of the team. That is a Real champion team, much alike the Patriot Superbowls.

Thanks Oswlek

also from me it will be really tough for Indy to repeat but, still, you are one of my top 3 NFL teams for next season

1 NE
2 SD
3 IND

Ciao from Italy

No...it is hard for any team to repeat nothing against the Colts. I think a team would need to make a significant improvement the 2nd year in order to repeat because everyone is gunning for you. We added Corey Dillon in 2005. You will play 16 Superbowls this coming year. Everyone will use the Superbowl Champion Colts as a measuring stick.

I am even hesitant to say that they will repeat as AFC South champions. They're schedule is brutal IMO. They are a good bet to make the playoffs though. My hope is that they come to Foxboro for the divisional playoffs on a bitter winter Saturday evening this January

I have been following all of the news from the colts fan site as well and mass change on defense for us really which I find exciting. I am looking forward to seeing if we can somehow put one of the best defenses on the field this year. With all of the injuries to their secondary in past 3 years, the Colts bench has some real experience coming into play this season. Wishful thinking for us Colt people.

For me it's more like

Indy/NE
*gap*
Baltimore
*small gap*
SD

The coaching turnover does not bode well at all for SD. SD has the talent, but look at the playoff game against us. They shot themselves in the foot so many times that Indy, Baltimore, and NE would have beaten them even though they were inferior talent-wise.

And if you thought Jacksonville was already biting Indy's ankles then wait for this season. Every team is going to go for the KO punch like rab said. It's not going to be easy, but if the Colts do make then I give them props.

The Colts may have some experience in the secondary but the depth is gone. If injuries persist, the Colts could be vulnerable back there.

As Arnold would say, I'll be back. Glad to be part of your community now.

Best of luck to everyone.

NO.........The Colts are still in a division they should win even with next to no defense but no Bowl trip for them this year. Everything went their way last season but lady luck doesn't shine on teams in back to back season. In one of those seasons a team has to go and take it out right and Indy doesn't have the players to do that. The AFC is just that tough and Belichick is hell bent on getting back there himself so I just don't see it..................NO.

Valid point Rich, Agreed

Sanders is the key to the Indy D. With the turnover @ corner, and trying to replace June @ LB if Sanders gets hurt and misses major parts of the season (especially the 4 games after your bye), the D will be lost against some of the higher powered O's.

Personally, I thought the Colts were the fourth best team in the AFC going into the playoffs last year and just got hot at the right time. They were lucky enough to face Herm Edwards and the Chiefs in round one (Edwards is probably the biggest choke artist coach there is and he was moronic to keep Trent Green in the game when he was clearly lost). They also faced a Pats team that was on their third road game in four weeks and spent most of their energy beating the Chargers the week before.

Although it sounds I am swiping at them, I'm not. Many teams have won the Super Bowl eventhough they were clearly not the best team in the NFL, but got hot at the right time in the playoffs. The Pats did it in the 2001 season. The Steelers did it in the 2005 season.

But because of they were a team that wasn't the best team in the NFL, but won the Super Bowl; I don't expect them to repeat. I still think the Pats and Chargers (and possibly Broncos and Ravens) are better than the Colts. I don't know if the Colts really fixed their run defense because the Ravens ran well on them, but quit running and the Pats and Chiefs just quit all together. The Pats ran out of healthy RBs and Herm Edwards blew it by not committing to the run (how you only rush the ball 13 times with Larry Johnson is beyond me). I expect them to have a lot of problems stopping the run again this season. Maybe not as bad if Sanders can stay healthy, but still have problems. You can't win Super Bowls if teams can run all over you especially if they face the Chargers in the playoffs.

You will notice that I mentioned my beloved Patriots first when I made prior comparisons. I also said that the 2006 Colts were better than most of the teams that I see similarities too.

That said I stand by my original point. The Colts lucked into playing a team that left their best QB on the bench; one that had absolutely no idea what offensive creativity is; one that screwed up by dropping the ball even when a play actually worked. Then the Colts lucked out by facing a team that underestimated them completely, thinking that the prior game was a fluke. Defensively, that team also dropped two easy ints that would have changed things.

The third game was where the Colts luck completely shown through. NE losing all the players that they did was a ridiculous windfall for Indy. Add to that both calls that went against NE (Browns OPI and the terrible no-call on Caldwell) that took points off the board.

Lastly, Indy faced probably the worst offensive team to make the SB since the 2000 Baltimore team, and very possibly the worst QB ever.

I am not saying that Indy didn't earn the wins. They certianly did and they had to overcome quite a bit to do it. Sometimes (as it is with 2001 for me) being the benefactor of all that luck only intensifies how pleasurable it was to see a team win it all. But Indy would have not even made the SB in most years. And, if history repeats itself, they won't come all that close in 2007.

Depends what you consider a good bet. Just like with Tom Brady, any time you have Peyton Manning you've got a shot.
