Held Hostage by the OT Position 2025

Time to say the quiet part out loud, assuming health the Patriots defensive line and defense as a whole is a top five unit. This is great practice for this O-Line.

Some people here are posting ridiculous takes…. wait to see the depth chart entering week one, then you can panic.

They picked Campbell in round 1. They were not going to pick Trapilo at 38 maybe if he slid to round 3 or 4.
# 4 and 38 is too much draft capital for one position.

I do agree thst this OL is going to have a very difficult season
Don’t care. Desperate times call for…desperation.

Did you know Morgan Moses is six months older than David Bakhtiari, who played college ball at Colorado with Nate Solder?

Nate Solder, that name sounds familiar. Let me think…

Is he coming to the Patriots instead of Maye too?

I'm glad they have a stud blocking TE to help this OL out while it gels....

Great bleeping point. Stubby and Go to IR Moses need that. They need all the help they can get. CJ Cippre makes the 53. You can almost take that to the bank.

I understand why they took Maye but I was all aboard the Alt or Bowers train. Maye could do no wrong last year because of the train wreck around him. The spotlight will be bright on him this year and if he doesn’t excel, not taking Alt or Bowers will hurt even more.

Yep.

By the time the OL gets fixed, Maye will be bruised and battered and at the end of his rookie deal. He’ll be looking to cash in on a new contract. A hefty contract.

Colorado Buffs.

Nate Solder 2006-2010
David Bakhtiari 2009-2012

Birthdays.

Morgan Moses 03/03/1991
David Bakhtiari 09/30/1991

So David Bakhtiari who played at Colorado with Nate Solder is half a year younger than our starting RT. And our backup Trey Jacobs is horrific.

Um, recipe for disaster.

The solution? Obviously, bring in David Bakhtiari. Less mileage and younger than the guy brought in.
Bump. This needs to be screamed from the roof tops.

I hear the frustration. I miss the old days where BB and Scar could plug and play a no name UDFA into the mix and the team not miss a beat. Fast forward to today where we've drafted numerous players in the top or heart of the draft (Strange, Sow, Mafi, Wallace, Robinson) and still no solution at LG. WTF?
I think a lot of that had to do with Brady's presnap reads and getting the ball out so quick. Our Olines were fine to good under Brady, but he definitely made the unit look better than it was. If Maye can take a step combined with McDs offense that will feature lots of quick routes, that will raise the level of the line imo. Still a cornice tho, no doubt about that.

Bakhyiari the same left tackle that played in just 13 games from 2021 to 2023. Well that would be a positive move.

Shouldn’t we watch Will Campbell play in some games before we declare him a failure.
No no, State and Sam know for a fact that he will tank. They know all things for a "fact"

I think he will be successful, but overall the Oline is still 100% a concern today. Hope that changes when the bullets fly for real in Sept.

I thought so too. But there are decisions that make me scratch my bald pate.

Why not include Sidy Sow, who can be an nfl starter, at the open competition at LG? His natural and accustomed spot?

Why give up on Cole Strange as a guard? It’s like musical chairs with him.

In fact SF Steve this morning in his 53 man projection forgets about Sow entirely.

I agree that one would think Sow would have been better off at LG, but maybe they knew Wilson and Strange were better, and decided to allow him to learn the right side so he can backup both. He did spend a camp playing right tackle.

Strange is in the last year of his contract. I think they like this young group Wilson, Sow, Wallace, and that the veterans Strange and Onwenu will be out next year. In other words other than backup depth I don't think they view Strange as much more at the moment. They won't want to spend more than he's worth in this current role, which probably means bye bye because I think Strange can be a reasonably priced starter in this league.

The reason I need to give them the benefit of the doubt (though I admit Wallace might be a bust. Still don't know) is how right they appeared to evaluate Wilson. They didn't mess around. Maybe that blows up, but so far that's been pretty good evaluating/coaching IMO.

Its Tackle depth that worries me. Im fine with Lowe as a back up at LT, but who knows if he'll ever see the field. God love him but if Domontre Jacobs is our swing Tackle we are porked.
Maybe Jacobs can improve with better coaching? I do tend to agree they need someone with a bit more talent and experience as the OT3.

Add Strange as a backup at LG and C and I agree that that we have a serviceable IOL Strange is also NFL quality. So, barring injuries, we have a below average NFL quality OL, plenty good enough for a playoff run.

Is SIX NFL quality OL's enough for a long season? I have little confidence in the rest. Should any be in the NFL? Personally, I don't know about Wallace and Robinson. Perhaps, they can be developed.

Wallace was ahead of Strange last week. Strange was demoted to 3rd string.

The OL is the biggest reason why I’m not ready to say this is a double digit win team this year. Let’s see what they can do.

Not crazy about the depth there.

Getting Alt would have been nice but he is not a generational talent like an Orlando Pace so it is hard to pass up on a high ceiling QB when he is there at draft time. Zappe and McCorkle Jones are backup quality. Milton is probably not even that.

Broderick Jones… eh. Very inconsistent in his rookie year and Steelers fans are wondering if he is a bust already.

Jesus state you are depressing. If you are seriously saying they should have taken another OL instead of Maye. Then you know little about the game

He’s ridiculous. He wanted them to trade out of #3 and then take Spencer Rattler, who flat out sucks. He *****es and moans about an exceptionally athletic tackle who is 6’6 320, and declares him a failure because his arms are 1/3 of an inch too short, but wanted them to draft a tiny QB who is 6’0 211 and can’t play for ****. If he was the GM they wouldn’t be able to play in the UFL.
