Haynesworth & Ellis @ Practice

Means Ellis can't be put on the PUP when cutdowns come.

That wasn't going to happen anyway. They weren't going to sign him for $4M unless he could pass the physical.

I hope the BEAST plays next game. Those rumors say we r hidding him?? sounds like BS to me.

So you figure that teams are going to create a new blocking scheme that has never been used before of dedicating 4 of their 5 OL to block 2 DTs?
How can it be that anyone ever scored a point against a team with Hayneswroth on it?
I just can't believe I missed all of those time last year that the offense had to let other guys run free so they could block Wilfork.

So........ are you telling me that with both Vince Wilfork and Albert Haynesworth on the interior of a D Line (and playing well together - which remains to be seen), won't create nightmares for offensive blocking schemes.....

The point is....... in typical defensive situation...... BOTH, by the nature of their talent/size/athleticism would require 2 blockers to effectively contain. We often see Vince contained effectively with 2 guys (but often times not too ). By putting 2 guys up there that typicaly require 2 guys, then your heaping an s-load of pressure on the line, because, like you said, you can't realistically put 4 of 5 guys on two........ Something gotta give...... The past few years, they double Wilfork cuz then CAN. With Albert there, maybe they can..... maybe they can't. That's what has people salivating.

When is the last time we had 2 guys on the DL that absolutely commanded 2 guys to effectively contain most times they were lined up next to each other? (serious question by the way). We know that Vince is that guy, we highly suspect that Haynesworth will be that guy too (he has in the past at times).

It's the prospect........ and if you don't think the potential of VW and AH up front together has some devastating potential for this defense, then perhaps its you that needs to learn a bit about the game.

I'm all for enthusiasm, but lets have the guy make a play before we call him the most dominant force that ever existed.
This board has gone wacky. We have people saying G Warren is a force because he made one play, and now Haynesworth will dominate the world and he hasn't even made one.
This is the same guy who was about the worst DT in the NFL last year, or have we forgotten that?
Oh and his last year in a 43 was 2009 and he was widely considered a disappointment.

If you scroll up to the top of the page, the name of this site is Pats Fans.

NOT Pats Centrists or Felger on the Pats.

Overzealousness and blind optimism is what being a fan is usually about.

Nobody asked you to temper other's enthusiam.

Based upon Haynesworths overall body of work, there is more of an indicator that he will be greatly successful. So as much as your cynical/ tempered approach seems to work for YOU.......it holds no more or less water than anyone elses opinion.

Enjoy your existence in cynical droopy world, but stop trying to suck everyone with a spark of excitement and passion into it.

We're not playing a bunch of college teams. Believe it or not there are some teams in the NFL with offensive lineman that can handle VW / AH one on one.

You're right that he was in the 4-3 in 2009 and it was not up to his standards, but he was still impactful and his stats were generally in line with the years he was dominant in Tennessee. Last year he WAS a bum, but I think it's being unecessarily pessimistic to say there isn't a legitimate reason to be excited about him this year, playing the 4-3, and under the supervision of Big Vince, Peppah, and BB.

Guess many can stop the (idiotic--IMO) speculation that Belichick somehow went out and made these moves not knowing their injury status/surgical recovery status....

I have felt the whole time that these are proven, seasoned vets who BB is taking it easier with in a somewhat meaningless TC (for them). The season and hopefully--post season is long, and we already know what they have to offer, and whether or not they are on the team.

If I'm not mistaken, this is not even close to the first time that coach Belichick has allowed a seasoned vet some time to rest and recouperate for the long upcoming yr ahead.

Most excellent!

Finally we'll get a read on what's left in the tank for both players. I almost forgot that players can actually return from injury, lol.

Too bad we won't see him and our defenders against an above average offensive line. I'd rather we face an equivalent to say the Jets O-line.

Ellis is officially off PUP.

Carter, Wilfork, Haynsworth, Ellis, Warren, Pryor
Seventh DL TBD or not

AWESOME!

9 LINEBACKERS (and DE/OLB's)
--------------
Anderson, Nickovich, Cunningham, Moore
5 ILB's

We're ready to go!

Yeah, I'm hoping his highly incentivized contract encourages him. The better he plays, the more snaps he takes, the more money he earns. Plus another bonus for the probowl.

I would be stunned if Love does not make the team. If we can only have 6, I take him over Warren.

I'll add Love to your DL group.

Deaderick and Brace stay on PUP, wonder if a tread for low pick for any other DL?

I caught my only practice of the year today. I was excited to see Haynesworth there but he didn't look to be participating. Just kind of standing around. Not sure about Ellis - I was far from the D.

Got caught in a torential downpour.

You lucky bastid! Oh what I would give to be caught in a torrential downpour here in central Texas.

But at least you get good Tex Mex there.

Weird weather here. Poured on the drive to the stadium, got sunny and hot when there, then cloudy, then poured again. There was a huge cloud following me. Now I'm back in Providence and it's sunny, as always.

Well, that is pretty obvious. So obvious, it's a given....... By the same token, Donald Penn is an all-pro Left Tackle in this here big boy league and, by most accounts, should be able to handle a guy like Andre Carter, who was, before this year, considered and average D-lineman with some occasional success at rushing the passer.

It's preseason of course, but it was pretty clear that the other day Penn looked like a boy vs man against Carter. Carter made him look bad beyond a little preseason rust. It was consistent, and ugly at times.

On any given day, a "quote-unquote" lessor considered guy can best a all-pro. We all know that. It's a game of percentages, and the percentages says that in the preponderance of circumstances, to effectively neutralize either VW or AH over the course of a game, a lineman is gonna need some help. Having to prepare for both at once, has the makings of a nightmare for many teams.

That's all I'm saying.

Anyone have any definite info on where Ellis was lining up? DE or DT?

There was a huge cloud following me.

That's kind of ominous. Could it be that you were injected with some kind of microscopic homing device by the Chinese?

While we're at it, what's with the Chinese basketball players picking fights? Reportedly they do it all the time. Are they looking for NBA contracts?
