Has any team ever had so many former HCs on its staff?

One of Patsfan 2 posts made me think of this. The Pats have Vrabel, Morrone, JM, Brown, McAdoo. That’s five. Has any team ever had that many? Does it matter? Is it an advantage?

It shows how much confidence Vrabel has. Not threatened by other coaches and just wants the best, people he can trust.

I think it’s an advantage because all have had oversight of an entire team and surveyed the big picture. Also, they were good enough as position coaches to get promoted.

Plus, not one was a Jets head coach.

Kinda weird but in a good way. The experiment last year of having effectively no head coach didn't work out didn't work any better than Bill's experiment having no qualified coordinators the year before.

Without digging in the Chiefs have Nagy and Spagnola.

Bill, Scar, and Josh had multiple seasons together but I can't think who 4 and/or 5 would have been. Then there's the Bill, Matty P, and Judge year but Scar was gone so again I'm not sure who 4 or 5 would have been.

Scar had an interim stint like Brown from the OPs list just to be clear.

That's an advantage for us because some of those guys ie... McDaniels and Marrone - *Terrell Williams* *current health Issues* days of ever being a NFL HC again is dead: Coordinators and Position Coach for life.

It backfired both times even with the experience and success of the latter BB.

The current Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, OL Coach, Pass Game Coordinator, and Special Defensive Advisor (or whatever his title is) have all previously been Head Coaches (one being interim). Additionally, the current WR Coach is a former OC. Definitely a lot of high level experience on staff.

Lets just hope they all can get on the same sheet of music.

I can only see that as an advantage whether they failed or not. There were 5 Owners that thought they were worthy of being a HC.

Rewind that argument to Matt Patricia and Joe Judge and get out the popcorn.

The comment definitely reflects bad on those respective owners, but reveals that they produced well enough as coordinators to catch eyes all around the league. And luckily, we're putting these guys in their respective units and sides of the ball!

I’m sure there will be times where things get heated. Actuallly, I’d be very worried if there weren’t any. You can get along like you should and then you can get along like cronies do (patting each other on the back all the time etc). I don’t see vrabes being like the last bit at all. That many experienced people under the roof will be a great thing.

It is an advantage in that it frees up Vrable from some day to day oversight of logistics. I think BB was stretched beyond his capabilty with the lack of exp in his staff.

Vrabel wont have that same problem.

Bill's staff was always littered with former or future HCs. And oddly enough it's something people used to criticize him about.

This time around, all the coaches are settled at their positions of expertise.

The Chargers a few years back had Gus Bradley as DC (after he was fired as head coach of the Chargers) and Ken Whisenhunt as OC (was previously the head coach of the the Cardinals and Texans). Mike Tomlin for a while had Todd Haley as the OC (former head coach of the Chiefs) and **** Lebeau as DC (former head coach of he Bengals). Not sure if there were any other former head coaches on their staffs though. But if there is another team that might have as many former head coaches, they would be a good start to explore further.

Future head coachesj yeah, that is not the question though. It is guys who were hc on other teams from other organizations. Guys who have themselves ran meetings, organized team activities, dealt with holdouts, dicipline from the HC seat. Working with ownership and front offices. Hiring Mcdaniels and Matty P back is not the same thing.
