Hard Reset- What we can expect

We can expect mediocrity, mixed in with some success, and some failure. Basically what it's like for almost every team in the NFL. Also, expect to never see a 19 year run like they had.

Next several years will be painful.
Minimum of 3-4 years of 3rd or 4th place in AFC east. At least 1-2 more top 10 picks
Some bad football for at least the next 2 years (probably longer)
Little national attention
Old time pats fans have seen this before in the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's
It's not fun. Usually eliminated from realistic shot at playoffs early.
True test as to who are loyal Pats fans and who are bandwagons.
A soft reset after Brady left WAS possible but way too many roster building mistakes by Bill and failure to adapt to the modern game (which requires electric offense to be a contender)
Some teams have sucked for a decade or longer after hard reset (see Jets)

" Way to many roster mistakes by bill" you
said it. Not to make this a Mac debate. However had the coaching stayed the course from 2021 could Mac had been salvaged? Bill took a lot of heat last season for his coaching decisions. From long time respected people in the NFL as well. As you perfectly put above offensively we need everything. Just about every NFL team has number 1 WR or someone who commands the attention. Every NFL team has A 3rd down back, a slot WR. However if we can get the right QB that solves a large majority of the problem.

Because I don't want any lingering ties to the dynasty. Time to move on from that era. We have seen too many Bill disciples fall on their faces over and over again to put one in place here with the added pressure of following him.

That’s fine, but it certainly isn’t performance rated, which “ they have to go” makes it sound like.

However if you get rid of the defensive coaches you definitely risk the defense dropping off significantly, as these coaches and the systems they are using are working well with these players.

Well, having a top 2-3 pick in a strong QB class greatly increases those odds.

Sometimes, finding a middle aged QB that plays above average at the position can turn things around fast as well, like we've seen in Detroit with Goff, KC with Alex Smith back in 13-14. Cousins would definitely do that, if we aren't in a position to take a QB early.
Screw that Cousins couldn’t get it done with elite talent at the skill positions around him. He costs too much and he’s a mediocre QB. Draft a QB and fix the other problems through free agency and the draft,

The Blunders continue Grier was signed off the practice squad. LOL.. Bill is stuck with Bailey Jones.
So stuck in his ways he thinks a marginal St's player is better than having a Third QB on putrid Offensive Roster.

That is entirely different question. The poster syggested that the coaches HAD to go, presmuably because they were so bad.

Agree completely.

Oh you didn't see all those plays Chris board made yesterday? LOL

I wasn't hitting on Board the Roster is loaded with ST's stiffs.
And bad contracts.. imagine He had to give bent Trent Brown a contract in order to come to work. Gave Parker a new contract and KB nothing.

The defense has been good especially considering the injuries. I am fine taking that risk and one of the main reasons is not trying to make every player be a jack of all trades and a master of none and just letting guys do what they're good at. I don't care if Barmore isn't as good against the run as Godchaux he shouldn't be taken off the field unless it's for a breather. Dugger also played a good portion of this season out of position and they finally moved Jennings from inside to the edge and now he looks like an NFL player. The defense has been good but I don’t think the coaching staff is batting 1000 with the personnel either.

Aren’t the teams that are bad for a long time because the ownership is bad? I’m hoping that Bob and than Jonathan will make the right decisions.

Bingo!!!!!!! Thank you for this post. Ownership is everything to how a team rebuilds.

This off-season is one of the most consequential in how we are going forward as a team.

$140million in free agency and high draft picks in every round. If we nail it we can be back competing. If we whiff though will be back where we are today.

Bill the builder won't be here so IMO it's up to Groh, wolf and Zeigler to get this roster up-to-date.

A lot of players that fit this system will need to go. Then it takes a season to implement the new defensive schemes. It's almost never smooth sailing.

Still baffles me people still think this is the mid 70's, and the only way out is the John McKay 5 year plan.

Look at the Texans two years ago compared to how they look now. Look at Jacksonville in 2021 vs. 2022. Detroit two years ago compared to now.

Rebuilds don't take 4 years anymore. They are more 1-2 at max. A franchise QB greatly speeds that process up.
The Lions benefitted with Rodgers leaving GB and the Bears still mired in Failville.

Jax,Houston and Indy are all 8 - 6.
