Half of the teams in the AFC playoffs are starting backups

So let's say Big Ben gets injured in the first round of the playoffs but still advances.......I wouldn't be a real fan if I found it disappointing that we are treated to McGloin vs Landry instead of Carr vs Roethlisberger?!?!

Of course we'll still watch, but there is no question that it would be a diminished product at the games highest level so it would be disappointing to an unbiased fan (of course Pats fans would be biased and enjoy the other team's misforunte as it helps our chances).
I don't think any patriot fans would not watch (hence your marketing issue) a patriot playoff game because there is a back up playing

I'd say it's disappointing from a marketing matchup. In the playoffs you want the Brady-Manning sexy matchups. McGloin, Savage, and Moore just don't offer that, plain and simple. It's also not JUST that they are backups but they were very recently thrust into the starting role.

If a guy has been the starter since the early season like Cassel in 2011 or Prescott this year then you can rally behind them and perhaps view them as a worthy threat.

Agree. We know the greatest QB of all time won his first of many super bowls as a back up.

Sorry dude...you're not a real fan like Andy is.... Be a man goddammit!!! BE A MAN!!!!

Interesting to see if the donkey's will lay down for the raiders.
No freaking way. That defense has a lot of pride after that crap that went down in KC last week.

The offense? Not so sure, frankly. They didn't even have pride last year...

The closest we'll get to a Brady vs Manning esque type game is if it's Big Ben and the Steelers vs the Pats in the AFCCG or Brady vs Rodgers and the Packers in Superbowl!

I think Goodell will attempt to stop the Patriots in the playoffs by selecting Corrente to officiate and if THAT fails, then his supermoron rubber stamp, Jerome Boger....or perhaps he saves all the drama for the Super bowl and appoints the goddamned narcissist Hochuli to ref the Bowl.

Gives Goodell a real dilemma.

The Pats are a big draw in the Superbowl and that is more money for the NFL*

Dallas vs The Pats would likely be the most watched, and most anticipated, ever.

Of course we KNOW the last thing Roger wants to do is hand the Lombardi or MVP trophy to Brady.

Maybe he settles for helping the Giants get in and "Ooops!", a false story incriminating the Pats for something just happens to leak out of the NY media just before the game.

Matt Moore is a legitimate NFL starter. Some say better than Tanehill. We will see how well he can play on Sunday

The only team that stands to actually improve from that fact is Houston. Assweiler is a disaster. Savage has been an improvement on what Assweiler gave them. The Dolphins and Raiders take a step back and a giant step back, respectively, with Moore and McGloin.

???

He hasn't been up until now. Maybe he'll prove you right but there's nothing to back up this statement right now.

Did you watch his rookie year, or any of the many preseasons he's dominated? He hasn't been bad at all.

I feel just as bad about those QB injuries as opposing fans and players felt for Brady in 2008.

Right, Brady vs Manning is 'the utlimate'.

Fortunately there are still some potential good matchups on the NFC side.

We could get Rodgers vs Manning and Rodgers vs Ryan or R.Wilson vs Ryan. Even though Prescott is a rookie, Prescot vs Manning III would be juicy considering that Manning is the only QB to beat Prescott (and twice).

SB or bust

seriously..at least get to the big game. otherwise, this season has been a gigantic failure.

The point is that when the backups are out there and the STARs on in street clothes on the bench we all lose, real and casual fans.

Yes, real fans will continue to watch (some casual ones may not) but the product won't be as good unfortunately.

Injuries are part of the game

Injuries are part of the game
Yes, the worst part. They prevent fans from seeing the best players play, introduce a strong measure of luck in determining the winner in which hopes for an entire season can be dashed in a moment and at any time, and adversely affect players' physical well being and quality of life, sometimes even shortening their lives. Understandably, more players are retiring earlier, and more kids are being directed to other activities. It is not a popular outlook here, but for me personally it is increasingly difficult to accept the impact of injuries for the benefit of sponsors and my personal enjoyment.

That explains why hes sitting on the bench in Miami, Well, was sitting on the bench

Could Matt Moore, Tom Savage, or McGloin, despite not being Bryce Petty level of incompetent, come into Foxboro and beat us? The answer should be no, and if they do, we will be talking about it for years....

Injuries are part of the game

Agreed, but while injuries are a part of the game it's rare to see this many playoff teams have such late season QB changes (from injury or otherwise).

I know Joe Webb started for Minny one year. Rob Johnson started for the Bills after thriving in the regular season finale.

Those are the only two that come to mind from recent history in which a playoff team started a QB who only earned the role less than a month prior to the playoff game. I'm sure I'm missing some but it does seem kind of crazy that we have 3 this year alone (and all in the one confence).
