Good Morning, Pats Nation. I've been letting it SIMMER all season, but I NEED to get this out.

The New England Patriots started the 2024 season at GROUND ZERO. New Coach, New GM, New OC, New DC, New QB etc. They had to sweep away the crumbs of the Belichick regime(HOF regime, but it WAS time) and start over. They had to bring everyone together and come up with a new plan. The entire playbook is new, the offense had to be installed, taught, learned and put in use in a little over 6 months.

My point is this....Let's give it a little bit longer (or a LOT) to see what we REALLY have. There's so much negativity and hate about the coach, the system, the defense the GM etc. I don't think it's fair to expect much more than what we've seen so far. It hasn't been great. Shoot it hasn't even been GOOD, but considering where they started, it's a step in the right direction. It looks like they found the hardest part, the QB. I'm not ready to assign blame to Mayo or Wolf. We need to see more.

This offseason will be more telling than anything. If they can surround MAYE with Talent(OL/WR) and bring in some help for the D, we could easily be a playoff team next season, or better! AND for the "Haters", please cancel your season tickets! lol I've been on the waiting list since February of 2005. It'll be 20 years this offseason and I'd be HAPPY to have season tickets of my own. Think Positive and have some faith. We're in a better position than a LOT of other fanbases. GO PATRIOTS!!!

Good post. and really, you are correct. we are starting from square one.

buuuuttttt

I reserve the right to ***** and moan about the current iteration of the team because as my dearly departed uncle once said "you've spent more money on Patriots [sic] football than you have on cars"...

they have exceeded my expectations , so I'm good. Lots to build on going into next year.
Indeed, in the past there has been a dismal, hopeless shroud of gloom hanging over the team due to ownership chaos and negativity, largely allowed to infect the locker room from local and national media's abuse.

This appears to me like an opportunity for learning and gaining experience, and there are a plethora of examples of teams who had very poor seasons in the win-loss column yet were building toward great success.

I do agree that the team needs to upgrade coaches [AVP] and players.

I understand that the O-Line seems to be a mess and can't get out of their own way, but a real concern is the defense is getting shredded. No surprise with Belichick gone.

It's so absurd how many fans insist that coaching doesn't matter.

Is there a history of bad coaches growing into good coaches in the NFL in one stop? Are bad talent evaluators turning into good evaluators once they have the reins?

We have a young, true franchise quarterback, loads of cap space, and good draft capital. Why hope when we can have success getting an elite coaching staff and front office on the market? This offseason, we will be the most desired landing space in the NFL as long as Kraft promises to hand over the keys to the new staff. We know our past greatness was from the Belichick/Brady combo that is now being repeated in KC. Why not shoot for a new dynasty now?

Based on Wolf's hit/miss ratio after the 2024 draft, I expect he and Al Groh's kid will field a very strong group of 22 starters in 21 years.
Our patience will be rewarded........

If the coach was qualified, people would have more tolerance. But this hire was an embarrassment to the organization. He was a bad LB’s coach only to now be running a team.

Kraft rejected hiring Bill Belichick after the 1996 season because he didn’t think he was ready, but changed his mind after getting humiliated by both Bill’s with the Jets in the late 90’s. Then fires a 6 time Super Bowl winning HC in Bill Belichick for a guy with very little experience.

Mayo has had soundbites along the lines such as “I’m the CEO”, “We’re burning cash”, “We could’ve lost every game”, “Team is soft”, “ I can’t help them once they are on the field”, “Stacy told me to”, “I’d replace players if I could”, “The roster is bad”, “We let him go because we thought he was cooked (Schuster), “I want to be a walk around HC and let my coordinators do everything” and I’m probably forgetting more.

Improvement. That’s all I ask for. We have hardly seen that. They can’t maintain it for multiple games. 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Damn near every week.

If people saw even a tiny bit of improvement, they would be more tolerant, at least I know I would. They got rid of our coach of 20 years and replaced him with someone who doesn’t know what he is doing. That is the most frustrating part. If Kraft had hired someone with experience and we were still only at 3 wins, I would have been patient as the roster is bad. I don’t have the patience with Mayo because even with a better roster next year ( I hope), I don’t believe he is head coaching material. I could be wrong and obviously I would like him to prove he has what it takes but will he ? I am not so sure…

Many teams start from square one. Almost all of them show improvement.
The new coach usually shows capability.
The GM usually makes some good acquisitions.

Other than having a Qb fall in our lap, none of these things have happened.
Other than Qb we are worse now than we were a year ago, after having$100,000,0000 of cap space and a complete draft at #3 in every round.

It’s arguable whether we are that worst team in the league, but when you are splitting hairs to be better than 2-9, 3-8, 3-9 teams you are just in group that all suck.

Patience required progress and there hasn’t been any. Starting from 4-13 the new brain trust couldn’t even improve upon that.

What was your expectation?
Other than Maye what do you see that there is to build on?

That’s really painful to read when you collect them all like that.

BB puposely got himself fired so that he could collect all his money. Kraft forced Corky Jones on him and when CJ went crying outside the organization, BB wanted to cut his sorry axx right then and there. But, Thunder Kraft vetoed BB and kept Corky QB1 anyway.

I applaud your optimism, but, mediocrity is the ceiling for this head coach and staff. When you have a supposedly "defensive" HC who promotes a defensive line coach to DC, then can't help him game-plan or make adjustments when SHTF, you have baked-in troubles. The fact neither Covington nor Mayo had any experience calling defensive plays remains mind-blowing.

There would have been a lot less negativity, had the Patriots signed anyone but dumpster Free Agents in Free Agency, not currently be sitting on 50 million in cap space, and had drafted anyone who could play besides Drake Maye.

A lot less.

'The Committee' decided that the Patriots were fine at offensive line to start the season. This is what they went to war with, and it's one of the worst offensive lines in the history of the league.

This is before we actually get into game-planning and gameday coaching on both sides of the ball, as the season has played out.

There's very little reason to be hopeful, and 'The Committee' doesn't seem to care about the product so much as having extra millions in their pockets.

Dead Last - 32nd - in Real Cash Spending over the last decade, and it's not really close.

If 3-14 exceeds your expectations then I shudder to think what your standards are
i am just being realistic. I realized this team was in a multi year rebuild and it is going to take 2 more years to even see an above .500 record.

I'm from New England and there's no optimism in my bones on a cold morning in November when your football is heading down Mediocrity Road and the snow is starting to fall and the snow chains aren't on the old Chevy and you're heading towards the glacial downhill by Purgatory Falls.

But still...

"And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return. Earth’s the right place for love:
I don’t know where it's likely to go better."
