It's really annoying when I hear the "exports"; who supposedly have been watching NFL for years, say how Brady learned the spike from Gronkowski when he's always done it with every single running touch down he's scored.
I think they are saying it in Jest. Brady has stated it on multiple occasions that he is emulating Rathman, the 49er's (favorite team as a kid) fullback.
Gronk has just brought the spike to a new level (and sort of a return) in the NFL, and considering he's spiked 25 (saved 1) balls over the past 2 years, he is certainly the most well known player to do it currently.
