Maybe you are thinking about one of the other major sports and posted in the wrong forum? If so, welcome Green Teamer!

Success in football is dictated more by coaching than any other the sport. Yes, it is, of course, important to have talented players but NFL history is littered with stacked teams on both sides of the ball who were doomed by bad coaching and talented individual players who flourished only after leaving a bad coaching situation.

No coach in history typifies the famous quote “He can take his’n and beat your’n, or take your’n and beat his’n” more than Belichick.
Good post.

I couldn't agree more. Perfect example is Bruce Arians, a great coach. In only his 2nd year with the Bucs (sound familiar?), the NFL franchise with the worse record (.393), he brought them a SB win. You can't even credit the SB to Brady because Arians had a winning record (.602) w/o the GOAT. Arians is a 1st ballot HOF coach.

The thread is about Belichick. My post was in response to someone else's post about the importance of players (PLURAL, hard to believe but there is more to life, and a team than Tommy) vs. coaches. I didn’t mention Brady.

Now that you have….I love all that the Brady cult here gives him most of the credit for the Super Bowl from one side of their mouths while telling us that the Bucs are an unstoppable juggernaut this year because they are stacked on both sides of the ball from the other. Many of us, myself included, underestimated what a talented roster they had and that they were a professional vet QB and leader away and non-INT machine from taking off. Brady was that guy but it is absurd to believe that Brady was the only elite QB who could have won a SB with the talent around him, especially with the way the defense came together late in the year and in the playoffs.

So, yes, last year’s Tampa year was one example of the talent of the players (PLURAL) overcoming average head coaching but that is not the norm. It is important to also point out that Bowles play a huge role in helping that defense become an elite group.
