Film: Dominque Easley is a One-on-One Terror

Another solid game from our pass rush. Chandler Jones had 2.5 sacks I believe, and looked great throughout. But I think Easley had an even better game. He seemed to affect Luck an awful lot. Encouraging and exciting to see.

He looked like he did in his last year with the Gators on Sunday. If he can stay healthy (big if), he will be an absolute force on the DL. His first step is as quick as any prospect I have ever seen.

<cough>Bud Dupree<cough>

Would be an interesting (but very short) race.

Everyone talks about the havoc that the jest defense could have on our patchwork offensive line, but i haven't heard much said about what our front 7 could have on Fitzgerald. Easley/Jones/Nink could make for a long game for Fitzy

Fitz has only been sacked twice all year. This will be a great test for the pass rush posse.

I hope Sheard is close to 100% I don't think we've seen the full force Sheard, easley and chandler can bring, bot of course, they need to be healthy.

I think Nink might be finding a different role, but what a great player. 8 sacks a year, great run support and clutch plays. He'll find a space.

Sheard, Chandler Jones, Ninkovich, Easley, Collins, Hightower. We have a lot of guys who can disrupt the passing game in numerous different ways. Up the middle, on blitzes, around the edges, etc.

Nink is on a pace to better his number of QB hurries from last year and is playing 83% of the snaps.

Sometimes less is more.

I know it's Collinsworth, but he said at one point during the game that it seems like Easley has been getting better and better every week it appeared to him.

Easley back to form. This is how he looked against the Bills and seems to have completely recovered from his injury. He was an absolute force this year and looked like a first round pick out there. If he can keep this up all year the pass rush will be a force.

Shread/Easley/Jones/Nink if all 4 are healthy I just don't think it can be stopped. A devastating 3rd and long crew.

Even if Easy doesn't record a sack or a hurry, he hopefully will get enough special attention that the double-teams will be a necessity and that'll open things up for the other DL's or LB's flowing through the middle of the line.

....and this is why BB rolled the dice on him. His explosiveness is epic.

My very novice opinion was that Vic Beasley had the quickest first step in the draft this year. What are your thoughts?

I don't know about first step, but he and Shane Ray were certainly the quickest to the edge. But not many could do what Bud Dupree could do:

He is finally on the trajectory many people in the draft board hoped he would show. If he stays healthy he could be better than Aaron Donald.

He's good, but I really don't think he'll be that good. Donald was producing from day one in the NFL, plays in a much more aggressive defense and doesn't have two potentially dodgy knees. Easley might end up being very good, but Donald is close to potential JJ Watt levels of good.

For example, here's Donald dropping into man to man coverage on Jimmy Graham. Are there any other DTs in the NFL that can do that?

Belichick has been trying to get to this point for a while now, his D Line and D ends causes fits for any O coordinator, they can be big and they can be fast and big.. combined with a solid LB combination the front 7 is as formidable as any in the NFL....

As the season this group will become more and more exotic, not Indy "swinging gate" exotic, but enough that they will confuse the QB's and O line.. health is the equalizer, stay healthy boys.

Nice that D. Easley is coming around showing that Burst that warranted a First Round Selection. I would love to see both Easley and Akiem Hicks rushing on Third Downs. That gives us Power - Speed and Beef on the inside. We now when Healthy have a Good Front 7 on the verge of being Great!

Interesting matchup this week for Easley with perennial Pro-Bowler Nick Mangold at Center. Not sure if Nick is still as quick as he used to be.
