yes, BillSounds like he didn’t get what he wanted from internal discussions and his fallback is whining on a public forum to get support.
Probably time to move on. He’s being paid plenty for being a secondary guy next to Barmore this year and clearly sees himself as more valuable than what the team does.
the team owes him $7-$8m this year pending his per game incentive plays out. his cap hit with his pro rated bonus is $11.8m. it's a pretty fair deal for a DT that does not produce any stats, but handles the middle pretty effectively. What's his current contract?
Agreed, I'm not sure he is worth a huge amount more. Would he get more on the open market?the team owes him $7-$8m this year pending his per game incentive plays out. his cap hit with his pro rated bonus is $11.8m. it's a pretty fair deal for a DT that does not produce any stats, but handles the middle pretty effectively.
if he was 26 yrs old, I could definitely see extending him with his prime age seasons coming, similar to Barmore, who does what Godcheux does, plus gets to the QB. but at 30 yrs old, it gets trickier.
will the team get a better season out of him on a do nothing, go out and bet on yourself on the field, and watch an angry Godcheux play it out for a contract? or does he play better with a contract that pays him for 2-3 more seasons?
I would be willing to let it play out and have him go out and prove it.
if he goes out and plays like a pro bowler, I would think he has 1 more contract coming in at 31 yrs old. let the free market speak.
I bet he "holds in" and does not bet on himself.
I don't think Bill meant top 5 when he said it. I think he just meant it in general. He was one of the best DTs over the past few seasons. The weirdest thing Bill said after Dogchow signed was that "he's one of the best DT's in the league", yet his contract clearly didn't reflect that. Fast forward, he does have some ammo to use though. They were 4th in the NFL in average yards allowed per game at 93 and the lowest yards per carry at 3.3.
This is what happens when other players on the team are getting signed prematurely. Barmore is an example. He has one standout year and now he makes $21M per year. Derrick Brown in Carolina is an even worse deal. Dogchow can make the case that he takes heat off Barmore and that he doesn't play full time. If Chow were to leave, this would put a ton of pressure on Barmore.
Keeping the contract side of the business out of the locker room is a tricky thing. The expectation and frustration that comes with holding the line with some players while eagerly retaining others is where the rubber hits the road for the new way of doing business. You can't have half the team angry about their contracts and the other have fat dumb and happy because they have their easy money. In addition to Mayo and Wolf handling the situation with minimum blow back, this team needs some leaders in the locker room. Until Maye (hopefully) establishes himself, there doesn't seem to be anyone else ready to take on the role. The weirdest thing Bill said after Dogchow signed was that "he's one of the best DT's in the league", yet his contract clearly didn't reflect that. what does "buckle" mean?Team Kraft will likely buckle and give him more money and then hold a press conference before going out on the town for lobster and champagne.
Belichick was able to keep the team from griping about money. Relatively few players dared to go public for fear of being traded.Keeping the contract side of the business out of the locker room is a tricky thing. Buckle means cave and give God more money and do it now as he stated.what does "buckle" mean?
if it means a friendly deal that treats the team fairly and the player is happy, then isn't that good football business?
if it means over paying and being sorry, then I agree
I laid out a scenario above of giving God more money now, and not impacting the cap space now, and he gets paid next year only if he produces this year.Buckle means cave and give God more money and do it now as he stated.
Before camp because you know God might forget when to report.
Kraft will probably pay up now as not to upset the players.I laid out a scenario above of giving God more money now, and not impacting the cap space now, and he gets paid next year only if he produces this year.
