Give your opinion on Chad Jackson?

No team in the league has a better 6th WR. He will have to work his butt off and and show some spark on special teams to be on any of the 45 man game day rosters. Brady is getting a very good feel for how Moss, Welker and Stallworth run routes. If Jackson actually lined up at WR he would be the last read in the progression.

So my opinion, I don't expect much from him. Some of it is not his fault but he should learn the ropes, get a better sense of being a pro and be ready to be a good #3 receiver in 08.

My hope is that he plays on some of the coverage units and destroys some people. I was surprised at how big this kid is.

Side note - After Dave Thomas went to IR I wanted to start taking some action on who would make the most catches Thomas, Washington or Jackson. So far Thomas is in the clubhouse leading with 2 receptions.

Another question to ponder - What does Eddie Jackson bring to the table? sounds like next Hank Poteat.

iam not sure who they will sit to play him in a game..gaffeny, washington ? Washington plays ST. unless jackson can do that efficiently i dont seem playing much at least early on this 2nd half of the season. If have things clinched then maybe BB will try and rotate his players.

He has shown flashes in the past, but I really have ZERO expectations at this point. If he suprises me, all the better. I would love for him to do well... just can't bring myself to get my hopes up... especially given the level of talent ahead of him.

I feel an irrational exuberance bubbling up on Chad Jackson. I keep trying to tamp it down, but I can't help feeling that in some game later this year, Jackson is going to be a difference-maker.

Kind of like Bethel Johnson against the Titans in 2003 (the really really cold game)... I don't expect much this year but do expect him to compete for the #3 WR spot in 2009.

My gut tells me the only reason he is being kept on the roster is that the Pats invested a 2nd and 3rd round pick on him. Otherwise, he would be long gone.

NE never keeps a guy around simply because of sunk cost. That is one of the things that seperates them from other teams.

If he was an UDFA-type prospect, of course they might have been more likely to dump him purely because the upside wouldn't have been worth the risk.

But people are going off the deep end with regard to Chad. He had a poor first year. It is not unprecedented for a WR to have a bad first year and then go on to an excellent career.

Here is a post that I made on another board about Jackson:

Games / Rec / Yrds / YPC / Long / TD

15 / 10 / 154 / 15.4 / 33 / 0
12 / 28 / 329 / 11.8 / 28 / 1
5 / 2 / 40 / 20.0 / 33 / 0
13 / 22 / 370 / 16.8 / 63 / 1
12 / 13 / 152 / 11.7 / 35 / 3
5 / 3 / 31 / 10.3 / 12 / 1
10 / 2 / 30 / 15.0 / 21 / 0
12 / 21 / 228 / 10.9 / 23 / 0
16 / 15 / 246 / 16.4 / 45 / 0
15 / 23 / 319 / 13.9 / 30 / 1
13 / 27 / 345 / 12.8 / 43 / 0
16 / 6 / 152 / 25.3 / 43 / 1

Pop Quiz!

Match the above first year stat line to the following WRs:

Reggie Wayne
Steve Smith
T.J. Whosyourmomma
Chad Johnson
Chad Jackson
Hines Ward
Javon Walker
Santana Moss
Rod Smith
Joe Horn
Donald Driver
Laverneous Coles

What do all of these guys have in common? They are either clearly among the best WRs on the game today, or are stars that are on the backside of their careers (except Jackson, of course). What is not debatable is that if Jackson has a career like the worst of these guys, everyone in NE would be very satisfied. It amazes me just how many people are willing to pass judgement on Jackson's career based on his first season. Sure there are plenty of examples of guys that started out great from the start (Holt, Moss, Rice - but also Glenn and Michael Clayton) and there are tons of guys who never took off after crappy first years, but the majority of very good to great WRs had inauspicious beginnings to their careers.

Can we please stop with the "Jackson is a bust" nonsense?

Jackson is still here because he has serious potential and NE feels that he adds something to the team.

I think Chad Jackson is going to be star in this league. It's all up to him, we all know that he has all the physical skills and tools, it's just the maturity issue. Randy has been helping him along during his IR stint and this can only help Chad.

I'm so happy Chad is back, I now want to see him on the field. I think his potential is great.

Chad is very tough and the body on the kid, man do you see pythons on this kid, it's all there, it's now just up to Chad.

I think Jackson is great, has great potential, much more than Bethel ever had.

Bethel was never big in college just a fast guy, I don't think he was that productive. Jackson caught in the slot mostly his junior year at Florida, that shows toughness. Bethel always looked kind of afraid of contact out there if you ask me. Jackson doesn't.

Chad Jackson, if healthy, has blazing speed, and I fully expect him to return kicks and cover kicks. Maybe he can return punts too, and give Wes a bit of a break.

I think he deserves patience and time to get integrated into the offense enough to see what he can do. A big problem for fans is expecting a guy to show up fully-developed in his first game. It's not realistic.

A guy with that kind of speed and hands does not get cut unless he simply doesn't work hard enough.

Chad Jackson 1.0.

He's going to be solid. If I'm wrong, we'll know eventually.
