Gilmore gets a raise

Makes a ton of sense. Now you can tender JC next year with a 1st and keep Gilmore, work out the extension during the year or match if someone tries to sign him to an offer sheet, and still be able to keep Gilmore another year on the tag if you want to for a not-totally-ludicrous price the next year while you work out an extension with him. Lots of flexibility here. IMO Bill wants to keep both.

It is absolutely incredible how we have two of the top 10 corners in the league plus at safety. The best group to be elite in given all the passing in the NFL.

We have the best secondary in the NFL. This will help the very weak front seven. Yes, I am a downer. But we have replaced top LB's with rookies, and our DT is weakened (even though it was the weakest part of the 2019 defense).

He deserves it. B.B. is probably trying to pay him to eliminate that side of the field. Gilmore Usland! All that. Even on a percent type of thinking. With him over there, it’s maybe 60% less likely they would target that side freeing up other guys to block the other side. Maybe

Last Sunday seemed to be some sort of anomaly for Gilmore, could officials be targeting him as he is the best?? Without regard suspect he will play much better in future games..

Read somewhere that as he is considered the best CB in the league right now the intent was to reward him for his efforts and play to keep his salary in line with the best at that position.

Remember the days of "two way Troy" or "on the roster off the roster Tiquan"... seems as though BB has completely changed his philosophy about DB's since that time, and also recognizing that he needs develop a D to counteract the current QB young'uns; Murray, Mahomes, Jackson et al. He has also strengthened the Safety position at the same time..

Thing is that it wasn't so much a raise as it was an advance on next year which conveniently also reduces a potential franchise tag number substantially a year later and gives the Pats more leverage in extension talks. It was one of the shrewdest moves I have seen from BB/Caserio when it comes to the contractual side of things.

That gap between Gilmore and the other top DBs is something else.

here is the chart with the other CBs names and years. Gilmore is #1 and #10

Gilmore is the best defensive player in football.

All those “sack artists” are just hovering above irrelevant to the game’s outcome.

The voters should consider giving the best defensive back the DPOY every year instead of the guys with the splashiest stats.
