Darrelle Revis in his prime or Ed Reed in his prime?

Hmmm ...

Revis had four superstar seasons in his first 6 seasons with the Jets, and two duds (injuries). He then had a "decent" season with Tampa, a very good season with the Pats, and one more decent season with the Jets before falling off a cliff.

Reed's excellent "prime" lasted about 11 seasons, all with the same team.

McCourty has been very good for the Pats for 8 seasons and is under contract for two more.

I think I'd prefer a player who can provide a decade of Reed/McCourty - all with the Pats - than a guy who's a superstar for 3-4 seasons and then basically flames out after the first year of his second contract.

Don’t get me wrong, either is very nice to have. And you have to be at least competent at both positions in order to have a good pass defense. But I’d take a great safety over a great corner any day of the week.
