By rule Ghost would have had a shot at a game winning free kick after the fair catch when time was almost up in regulation if the Pats chose. I think he had the leg to make it.

If he misses and there's time left does ATL get the ball in Pats territory? That would explain why they never went for it.

Tell you what, I'll be happy with just making all his Extra Points. I'm no mathematical genius but I know seven is easier than eight and I'll take just an Extra Point. These missed XPs seem like its difference between winning and losing in big spots.

That occurred to me before the punt but after the punt, the FG attempt would have been too far. It would have been a 75 yarder. The clock would certainly have run out, but I guess Belichick was worried about a return, because the defense can return it if it is short.

Yeah you can return em is the thing. Plus its a play that won't work and you are just flat out of rolling would of felt odd momentum wise to try it right there I think.
