SIGN the injured local beast!
Sign him small guaranteed $ with bunch of playing incentives. Put him on IR and let him do whatever he wants to get better. If he can't play this year or his foot looks like Bill Walton's then we move on.

The Damion Lillard approach

The BEST part is that the Raiders are PAYING Wilkins this year at $8M and Next year at $26.5M. So the Pats could easily supplement that with the Vet Minimum and playing incentives.

Yep. Man things must have gotten incredibly contentious for the Raiduhs to cut him loose like that. Very Walton/Blazers like

I agree, but I doubt that the Raiders would've cut him unless his left foot was in such a state that if Christy Brown suffered a similar fate he wouldn't have amounted to much.

Yup, but he still pocketed $50m in guarantees for playing one year (5 games). With the foot uncertainty and hopeful we could sign cheaply assuming the foot checks out. Even if he had to miss several weeks, there is opportunity here.

The Raiders are going to lose that.. As pointed out in the article you quoted:

The player has the right to seek his own medical advice and do as he sees fit in terms of rehab. He's not required to be at the team facility.

They've determined that things like that are not "conduct detrimental" years ago.

He apparently isn’t close to being ready to practice, let alone play in a game and it seems more likely than not at this point that he will miss the entire season.
If that's true, it would be a waste of money (regardless of having ample Cap Space).

We don't know. What we do know is they wanted him to have surgery and he said no.

I haven't read anywhere he will miss the season. I really haven't seen any timeframe mentioned, just that the Raiders wanted him to have surgery and he wanted to rehab. At minimum I would get this guy on a plane for a firsthand look at the foot.
