"The Patriots’ offense isn’t struggling because of Brady. It’s struggling despite him, which should tell you that the bulk of the blame points in another legend’s direction."

Chris is obviously losing it.......hopefully Felger can straighten him out this week........nothing sadder than watching a friend lose his faculties

that was just a rant IMO do not see a need to write a so called story about noting

Wishing we could select "Like" AND "Agree" AND "Funny" for this one. This column reminds me of that old Steve Martin skit where he sings a stupid song and at the end says, "...But the most amazing thing to me is .. . I get paid, for doing thiiiis."

Gasper teases the reader on where he feels blame should be placed...the Grocery Buyer....but takes the safe route instead defending Brady to the end. I don't blame Gasper for not crossing over to the dark side ...13 weeks to go, a history of improvement....like a savvy politician, never commit to anything until the polls are heavily in your favor. So what we have instead is an article much like a pop song......an overly sweet, made for the masses, forgettable read....aka..... newspaper filler.

Agreed, though I can't really blame him personally. I had a very brief foray into sports writing a year or so ago for a startup site, and I found the hardest part of it was actually figuring out what to write about. And I only had to do like one thing a week. I can't imagine having to produce content almost every day.

Reiss has to do the same on a daily basis, yet he resists the temptation to descend into creating clickbait content that has no football basis. The media he creates and post everyday are always factual, contain some new information, whether tidbit, or statistical.

I would love that challenge. With so many hours dedicated to creatively researching and writing about such a great topic, the depth and breadth with which you could explore the game could foster a rich and unique understanding of the game and those related to it. It is unfortunate that few in the sports media look at it this way.

I'm not saying it can't be done better than Gasper, just that I understand the challenges. Ultimately it's why I decided not to pursue that path any further. And let's not act like Reiss never puts out a stinker. A lot of his "analysis" articles are fairly off base and turn out to be completely wrong. But I don't really blame him for that either. That's HIS version of filler. Everyone in that industry has to do it, because for all the creative research you're advocating, there are days when the deadline is up and your brain just doesn't have a creative angle. You might have one tomorrow or the day after, but that doesn't help you when the boss needs an article today.

I'm not sure if we agree or not. I guess it really depends on how broad your definition of fluff is. The approach I'd take would generate a lot of "decent", general topics that can be used when lacking something exceptionally inspired or relevant to hot media topics. I think one of the biggest challenges that could severely limit the size of the pool would be the partnership with the editor.

The way you organize, access, relate and search your pool of existing work would be critical in providing a steady steam of "good" material with occasional "great" material.

There's not a single QB in the history of the game who would put up big numbers behind the Pats cardboard cut out line and with 1.5 receivers (Edelman and a hobbled Gronk).

brady's been awful by his standards ( GOAT )

..other teams have poor offense lines and they still put up points. i have a feeling tonight will be like the miami game week 1. smith is better than tanny, charles > moreno. both defenses can pressure the qb.
it's going to be a long frustrating night with predictable play calling.

Reiss does put out stinkers every now and then, but the difference is he knows it and calls himself out for doing so.

He doesn't put out filler. My definition of filler is something completely useless, as opposed to something new I learn, no matter how trivial.

Go take a look at how inconsistently Rodgers and Ryan have been playing behind their struggling O-lines. Meanwhile, Brady has had one bad statistical game out of 3 and you're posting that nonsense. You're so desperate to troll the Patriots that you clown yourself on almost every post.

As for those bashing the article, I can only assume y'all haven't read it.

Agreed, he often seems like a **** toward the Pats in print. I find him somewhat fairer when he's on the radio Saturday mornings with Bertrand but even there he occasionally gets snarky. Basically,he's a dink.
