Front Seven and Receivers

For me, this COULD be reasonable if we sign a couple of vet OL's. As now< i would prefer including a DB and an OL.

I’m not desperate for a linebacker or cornerback. Two positions I’d be happy for them to leave to the 7th round. Switch out ILB for an OL and I’d be fine with that (not necessarily in that order)

While we may not go ILB early (maybe Okereke?), I've been thinking lately that there's room for a player who can backup Hightower at both ILB and EDGE, and eventually take over for him if his injuries force an early retirement in the next year or two. At first I thought that maybe Winovich had something of a similar physical profile, but he's likely to go somewhere between 25 and 75, and that's a bit rich for the developmental type that I have in mind.

Eventually I turned my attention to Gerri Green. He didn't put up great numbers as the DE across from Sweat, but last year he played more of an off the ball role, similar to KVN, and actually produced at a better rate. He's made some nifty plays in space, although I wouldn't count on him being a man coverage specialist. Like a nascent Hightower, though, he's pretty strong against the run and shows surprising burst to the ball carrier.

Testing obviously isn't everything, but as a late round flier, sign me up for Green:

I do wonder whether Hightower sees more time on the EDGE this year with Bentley in a MLB role.

There is also the possibility that Van Noy will be playing for someone else in 2020.

I think we do draft some wide receivers and a tight end or two.

But we really need a DT, de, SS and lb.

I would love to get Simmons, sweat and abrams all from miss state. But that is not realistic. Although someone will overdraft sweat.

Interesting that we brought in wr’s brown and Samuel for visits.

Is this the year that bb finally breaks down and drafts a wr in the first round?

Seems like brown should be off the board by 32, and we could trade back to 35 with the raiders and still get Samuel.

Harry and Boykin too. Unfortunately I agree Brown is likely gone by 32 though not by much. Sign me up for Deebo and McLaurin if we don’t get AJ.

Will be interesting how the board shapes up. Maybe a trade down from 32 to take Deebo etc. in the high 3os,40s? Or we take our target at 32 and package 56 and 64 to move up.

I like the idea of moving up from 56. It could give us two from that borderline first round area. A WR and an OL or safety perhaps. Then get the TE at 64 or 73, whichever wasn’t used in the trade up.

I do like it too. I read somewhere recently that at 45-48 is a cutoff historically in terms of value picks. After that it becomes far less likely that a prospect becomes a Pro Bowler. So might be worth the risk to move up.

According to the value chart 56 and 64 would equal the value of pick 31. So maybe package 64 and 73 into the top 40.

There is decent depth too though. Ultimately it will depend on how many roster spots BB wants to address through the draft. I do think this is an opportunity to build a new generation of Pats for the future so wouldn’t want to give up too many picks.

agreed. Good chance to rebuild with 11 top 101 picks in 19 and 20.
