At the end he says, "So many people were smacking my head..." With all the focus on CTE, it is shocking this celebratory practice hasn't been banned, because experts believe even sub-concussive blows to the head are contributory and have a cumulative negative effect. If they are making players wear these weird helmets, why aren't they banning something so obviously bad for players? There's ZERO reason not to.

In theory yes every hit to the head kills a few brain cells. But when they are talking about sub concussive blows they are talking about the repetitive bashing of the OL vs the DL as an example not a little love tap on a helmet. The OL v DL really rattle the brain and it doesn't even require actual contact to the helmets just the force of two massive humans colliding causes some rattling in the head.

The way Brady was head butting drew in the tunnel before SB36 maybe should be banned but Baringer's were nothing.

I just want to weigh in real quick, I have had 9 documented concussions. Even little taps to my head with **** me up for a lil bit (dizziness, head ache etc). While I agree that what he got were little love taps but in a game where most people will have multiple concussions every hit matters big or small. Just my opinion from my experience.

Really. These "love taps" as you deem them can, if repeated over time, cause brain trauma. Some "love taps" can impart significant force, and the head butts -- which are still common -- are even worse. And these happen game after game, practice after practice. Regarding your definition of sub-concussive, that's just what it is -- your definition. The generally agreed upon definition is much looser: any head impact that does not result in a concussion or immediate symptoms, yet still affects the brain. And as another poster pointed out, for a player with concussion history, these impacts are even more worrisome.

Bottom line: they need to zero these out. It's completely unnecessary -- they can celebrate in other ways (bring back the high 5!) -- and may have long term consequences for players. There's only risk, and no reward. Protect the players. Brains are delicate.
