Remember that time Bill brought in a 31 year old Safety from San Diego that had a down year and was thought to be on the decline?

What is he looking for for $$? Not sure what other S make at his age

He's an incredibly talented safety. If you can get him on good money, you make it work with the roster.

I think you people that think OL is a need should brace yourselves for absolutely no movement there. Cannon is still on the team at a $4.7m cap hit and Fleming just got tendered

I think they will draft an OT. Cannon is terrible and they will save a lot of money with this move + Vollmer will be a FA next year + Solder is locked for more 2 years only. They can draft an OT in 3 round and develop him for 2 more years. Next year they give Vollmer at least 2 more years, they can extend Solder and have a nice core.

Almost has to be an either or in regards to cannon and Fleming. And Fleming is millions cheaper.

Well judging by the fact that Cannon is still on the team at a $4.7m Bill doesn't think he is. Maybe they are working on a restructure but the only thing with that is a restructure means an extension which again if Bill thought he was terrible he wouldn't keep him

I added him to my Pats team in Madden recently and it's worked out well so sign him! Jokes aside, I can see someone overpaying for him. Love to see him in a Pats uniform though...

Ian Logue

It sounds like Chargers safety Eric Weddle has some interest in playing in Foxboro next season.

It would be indeed funny, when one considers that if Bill were looking to draft a Safety with his
first-rounder in 2007, then he should've chosen the clearly superior Weddle instead of the toxic
punk Stomper Meriweather.

Sheard-Brown-Easley-Jones

---Collins-----------Hightower

-------------Chung
Butler-----------------------Ryan

---McCourty-----------Weddle

We're pretty deep at Safety. McCourty is locked in a big contract.

Chung was amazing the last 2 years. Unsung hero of our defense.

Then there is Duron Harmon and Richards.

Steve From Fall River you're up next...........

That didn't make sense at the time either but he had other plans as we found out afterwards.

I like Weddle and if Belichick thinks he will help I'm fine with that I just don't see it as things stand right now.

yeah but unlike Milloy's contract, McCourty's is uncutable with the giant cap hit. I'm not sold on Weddle being that great of a safety. The Pats for better or worse already have a huge amount of money invested/wasted at safety, they really can't afford another large contract back there.

I don't see it either but I just don't get why people are against it and cite Chung as the reason. They need to think of it as upgrading over Harmon who played about 60% of the defensive snaps last season, whereas Chung played 80%. So really I don't think bringing in Weddle would effect Chung that much, if anything it allows Chung and McCourty to rotate out a little bit more and not play as many snaps.

But it definitely improves the secondary.

Chung has earned his safety role I wouldnt bump him down just corporate more dime and quater defense.
I hate to say it but Weddle is a classic Baltimore or Pittsburgh signing hope im wrong.
Someone will overpay him, but it won't be NE.

His salary was $7.5 mil last year. He's probably not going to sign a "prove it" deal. Pipe dream.

It was a while ago but I seem to remember Meriweather being a solid prospect whom most here were quite excited to have on the team.

Too bad Bill doesn't have you on the staff or he'd be the first HC in history to bat 1.000 on his draft picks

"Big Bang Clock" was made famous on Toucher and Rich, however he got all of a sudden very stupid on and off the field..

Except they wouldn't have any picks because you only get 10-15 minutes on the clock, not 2-3 years.
