Four teams emerge as "most interested in adding Moss". Pats... are....

According to Rich Cimini:

Breaking: The #Jets did not submit a claim for WR Randy Moss or LB Shawne Merriman, according to league source. >

Further details are coming to light....Rex Ryan wanted to bring him in, but when word go to the Jets chief chef, the cook informed Rex that he would quit over it. Ryan backed off deciding that upset the most important person in his life was not worth bringing in Randy.

Do we really see Moss playing anywhere at the vet minimum, though?
Think of TJ Houshmandzadeh this year. His salary was guaranteed by Seattle. Made no sense for Baltimore to pay him more than the vet minimum. Houshmandzadeh was going to make the same amount; the more Baltimore paid him, it was just an equal amount less that Seattle paid him; his total salary remained the same.

Of course I'm going on the assumption that the guarantee clause in Moss' contract is the same as Houshmandzadeh's was. I don't know for a fact if it is or is not - but I can't recall players double dipping before, getting two game checks for one game either.

Rounding up all of the "insider" reports so far, we know that about a third of the league will put in a claim on Moss, that four teams will, and that he'll clear waivers.

Guess we should have just waited until 4:00, eh?

Anyone but the Dolphins, Jets, and Colts.

Toronto Agrunots have formally filed a waiver claim, but the league rejected it.

I thought the Jets brought in extra chefs (and cooks) due to Rex Ryan needing extra food on a constant basis?

I know the Rams are short on WRs, but it seems insane to me to bring in Moss for 8 weeks when Bradford seems to be developing well as is. Do you really want to add in the pressure to keep Moss involved in the offense, and get your rookie quarterback in the habit of forcing the ball to one guy? I think the Rams have to take the long view.

And the 'Skins? Only if Shanahan's been paying no attention to how things have gone down in Minnesota -- they've already got a schism between the head coach and quarterback, and now you want to throw Moss into the mix? That only seems like a good idea if you're trying to sell your team to HBO for next year's Hard Knocks.

I do think Miami could talk themselves into thinking Moss might behave for the opportunity to play opposite a receiver who will draw coverage away from him for once, but I could also see them leaking their interest to a reporter to bait someone else into claiming him so he won't end up back in NE.

The Titans are interesting -- I think it really depends on what the prognosis is for Britt's hamstring. If Fisher knows that it's a longshot he'll be able to come back at all, I could see him pulling the trigger on Moss, and putting Britt on the IR if they land him. If Britt's going to come back, than it seems like it wouldn't be worth it.

Not sure Moss in Miami would be any worse than Moss was with Minnesota. He'd worry me more with the Bills honestly.

He wouldn't worry you opposite Marshall with Bess in the slot? That's a little bit of a defensive nightmare. Add in Ronnie and Rickey and you've got yourself one hell of a tough time defending that team. Pass Rush better be on it's A++ game. I really hope the Rams pick him up.

Yes, but Rex Ryan probably doesn't have as sophisticated a palate as Randy's dog.

(Does Randy even actually have a dog?

Only place I could see him willing to do it now would be here, (assuming his mental breakdown is caused by him realizing what he is missing by not being here) but I don't think Bill would take Moss back for $1 a year at this point.

So, the new salary doesn't offset the Vikings salary?

Say they pay him the pro-rated amount of the veteran minimum ($230k?). That $230k wouldn't be deducted from the amount that the Vikings will pay him?

Is this what they refer to as termination pay, which can be claimed once in a player's career???

For a vested veteran, released after being on the team's opening day roster,

If a player is thereafter released during the regular season, the club must pay the unpaid balance of the player’s “Paragraph 5 salary.” A player is only entitled to termination pay once during his playing career in the NFL.

im sure SOMEone will claim him. My wild guess would be DA BEARS.

doubt it BUT
If they did, circle November 14th when the Bears play Minn.....
Now if only Cutler could get an offensive line to protect him or Martz wouldn't be so stubborn and give him some more protection or shorter drops..

So if we sign him for the minimum, we ended up trading Moss to Minnesota for a 3rd, Moss, and Moss' salary?

...not one of them.

NFL.com news: Dolphins, Rams, Redskins, Titans most serious about Moss

Dolphins, Rams, Redskins, and Tits. Rams are the highest on the waiver wire priority list, and would make the most sense since they are extremely thin at WR. Foreskins are next on that list, followed by the Douchefins and the Tits. Gotta hope either St. Louis or Washington pick him up. Having Moss in Miami is about the last thing we all want to see.

Kon

As someone who prides himself on making up insulting nicknames; I have to salute your post.

If he clears waivers, the Vikings pay the difference between his new salary and what was left on his old one (approximately $3.5M). He'd almost assuredly be signed to a veteran minimum deal ($720,000 I believe based on his time of service). His new team would pay that, and the Vikings pick up the tab for the remaining $2.8M or so.

That would definitely be a good group of receivers. I don't, however, think Henne would do that much with the setup. He seems very average to me. Just my opinion. I could be (and probably am) wrong.

Thanks guys. So, pretty much, it's guaranteed that he's going to clear waivers.

With info traveling at light speed in today's Twitterverse, I'd think we'd have already heard what top teams submitted or will submit claims for both Moss & Merriman.

Claims run at 1pm ET, correct, but must be submitted earlier?

Or it is literally like a fantasy claim where they need to be submitted 1 min before and then just process?

(LOLing at the thought of a GM on an official NFL website moving players up and down his waiver wire priority list.)
