In an ESPN interview yesterday, Lewis criticized the team for not providing him with two big defensive tackles that could shield him from blockers.

In 2000, Sam Adams and Tony Siragusa - both of whom weighed over 350 pounds - allowed Lewis to run unscathed to make tackles. Now, Lewis has Kelly Gregg and Justin Bannan - both of whom weigh just over 300 pounds - in front of him.

"The thing that frustrates a person like myself is if you don't give me the proper tools to be dominant," Lewis said. "That hasn't been brought up to say, 'I have the Michael Jordan of football on my team but I'm going to take Scottie Pippen away from him.'"

easy there Ray. Guy makes it sound like he invented the LB position

I listened to him on an ESPN interview talking about how he did not like to play in the 3-4 defense. Then the next thing I read in the paper is how he would like to play for Miami, huh.
I'm not a big fan of his, and believe his best days are behind him. I'd take him for the vet minimum.

I was a fan of his coming here until I actually saw the interview myself. I don't think he would like it here because we do not have scheme he wants. Although isn't the entire point of the 3-4 DL's job to occupy blockers so that the LB's can make plays?

Yeah, it was almost like he browsed the Patsfans board and decided to make the fans rally against him. It was like, post a pro-RayLew post, simmer on low for 12 hours, read interview.

Needless to say, I didn't feel the need to bump the RayLew post up (even though I did give the usual caveats, I was all about... will his intensity fit in here? But also thought there was an outside chance BB/SP might like having a look - until the ESPN interview.)

Pwoor Way Way, his wittle arms are swooo sorwe fwom fighting dose mean owd guarwds. Or is it holding his swollen head up?

Ray's dance won't play here

To Ray there is no "I" in team but there is an "M" & "E". Ray's whole stick has been me,me,me and that won't play well with the Pat's team persona.

Ray who? Oh yeah, that clown that likes to do an Elvis impression before games! We got an Elvis on this team already and its flying! Stay in Baltimore Ray they need your antics......

Felger right on target once again...

It seems to me that if a team can find DL who are big and strong enough to take up blockers and allow the LB to run free then you don't need to break the bank on a Ray Lewis calliber linebacker. Almost anyone can play LB when all they have to do is run in and tackle someone. It's the ability to fight off blockers that really makes a LB great. Lewis is basically saying that in order for me to be the best you have to make my job really easy.

Did you catch the part where he says, "you have to allow me to be dominant". "Allow me to be dominant".... I don't remember Lawrence Taylor ever asking for that kind of permission.

Exactly. If you are truly dominant you excel no matter what. The point of the word 'dominant' in this case is that nothing can stop you. If the type of base defense the team runs has that big an affect on a players success, then he is not truly dominant.

It's a poor workman who blames his tools.
