Who are our DT's? Are we OK with
Guy, Allen, Butler, Cowart, and possibly omw longshot production from Onwenu?

Has Cowart shown anything? How much of a downgrade is Allen?

Last year, I though that we needed another player. Belichick was fine with these four, and we did OK. I suspect an addition or two for camp, or for the season.

We need another 320lb + fatty

If BB doesn’t like what he sees during the preseason I could definitely see a mid/late rounder being dealt to add some help.

Lawrence Guy is one of the best players on the entire team...

.

But after Guy there’s a drop off. DT is a wildcard. Allen could surprise and give us more production than Shelton. Or he could be worse.

Pats have shopped in the bargain bin for DT's the past 4 or 5 years and got solid year(s) out of Branch and Shelton. Agree that they do not someone else to emerge and I am hoping it is Cowart.

Agree. But I feel good knowing an elite DT like Lawrence Guy is already one of the DTs. I'm far more concerned that at LB we are weak after Hightower and will get run all over like in 2002.

I am surprised bb didn't go after a d-lineman, after all we've lost a few.

I thought they’d add DT high in the draft, but they must be impressed with Allen and hopeful on Cowart. They did add a high risk/high reward de in Coe.

I agree. Belichick addressed LB in the draft but he will have to add veteran competition on the DL over the rest of the offseason.

Guy has been a great pickup, and Butler (6 sacks last year) has served well as a situational player.

Don’t feel they need to add an All-Pro/Pro Bowl caliber DT to improve on run D, but another addition would be welcome.

The Mike Pennel move didn’t work out last year (Go figure that he went on to have a very serviceable year in KC..), but hopefully they can take another shot at it on someone else.

DT was more important in 2003. DB is more important in 2020. BB puts the $ where he feels he can get better value. I think it’s smart.

I’d put $ in DB > LB > DL

Could've used cowart in n the titans playoff game... Wasn't he inactive?

Our defensive line has a 4-3 look to it. But our linebackers look like 3-4 linebackers.

should be real interesting to see how bb plays this. Would he try to resurrect his 5-1-5 defense by using the third safety as a tweeter linebacker.

Roster cut downs. Surely there will be a player or two that peaks BBs interest.

In 2003, BB pulled off a trade that transformed the NE defense into his best in 20 years with NT Ted Washington. Is there another trade out there waiting to happen?

I think that’s supposed to be Allen. Not seeing too many others available around the League, at least right now.
Yea and Allen isn't enough.

I've been a bit surprised by the lack of big bodied DTs on the team. Patriots used to always carry 2 of them, now it is one. Cowart is supposed to be a run stuffer guy, just seems a bit light. That being said, Brown was only 300 lbs or so and did the job well enough

Careful, I got roasted here a few months ago for using the word "serviceable" about Pennel's KC season. Apparently it was too much of an understatement.

Beau Allen is a big athletic guy who can play nose tackle. Allen, Guy and Butler should form a good rotation, though they needed one more true nose tackle last year and didn't have one in the playoffs.

If Onwenu can legitimately play two ways he could easily take that run specialist guard position away from Eluemunor and create some security for himself. Onwenu could really provide some roster flexibility and give them some more beef on goal line and short down situations going both ways.
