His disdain for the media is not very helpful, but the press started on him during TC when he made the players run "gassers" and it continued pretty much throughout the year, culminating with making the team practice outside in inclement weather..

Give him another year, let him start to rebuild with "tough" players who will buy into his system, and if he has a more successful season then a lot of the media noise will be muffled.. winning cures everything.

Matthew Stafford also needs to justify the huge contract he signed.. IMO a classic case of need for Incentive Based Contracts..

I have no answers, man. They are either bad coaches or good coaches that went to bad organizations

If everything else is equal, I prefer a guy who has more management experience.

Is Flores going to pick his own players? Choose his own staff???

If Flores is hired as head coach of the Dolphins, he will likely have no say on offensive coordinator, his coaching staff , or little input on drafting. In that case I would rather have a DC with more management experience.

Huh? Of course Flores would have hiring authority on his staff.

Drafting/FAs....I would imagine for Flores it being a collaborative process with the GM having final say. Its in the GMs best interest to draft players that fit the HCs scheme and profile.

This doesn't seem to be true of head coaching hires I've followed (Green Bay/Cleveland). I can see where a Mike Sherman or Bruce Arians can command this authority, but even Josh ran into difficulty with this last year.

You aptly compared the experience of a multiyear defensive coordinator vs Flores. Well that coordinator is often hired because they want a guy to control. I am curious why you are positive the Dolphins hand over authority to Flores in hiring an OC? I like Flores a lot too, but at this stage I don't consider it likely that the rest of the league believes he is that ready.

Not sure where you are getting that info about Josh as the coaches he screwed over he hand picked to go to Indy. I'm sure Josh told Ballard who he wanted and he spoke to them and said, 'OK'

I am not aware of any circumstances in which a team hires a HC but the FO says it will hire the coordinators and rest of the staff regardless of who the HC wants in the roles. Even in HC & GM dynamics,as long as the working relationship is healthy I'm sure there is always some level of collaboration and an element of professional courtesy.

For example, when Parcells was here and BB was fired from CLE, Tuna went to Kraft and asked if he could expand the staff and hire BB. Kraft asked that he talk to BB first. Once he did, he approved of his hiring and then Grier, Charlie Armey and Andy Wazcnchuk all interviewed BB for Assistant HC and signed off on it.

With that said, we all have seen situations in which the FO has told the coach to fire such and such coordinator or positional coach. So the reverse is absolutely true.

In the Colts situation either Josh, Frank Reich, or both had little say in the hiring of at least three assistants because they were hired before either.

Word is what influenced Green Bay's decision for HC was that the Packers already decided on Mike Pettine as DC.

I get what you're saying, but I believe in a circumstance like Flores there is restricted control. Would Sean McVey have been hired if he wanted some unknown to be his defensive coordinator? I am not aware of any connection to Phillips before this. It's chicken or the egg.

News to me. Could be a situation Josh or Frank didn't know anybody they would put their weight behind and were OK with Ballard doing the search

Interesting of GB to do that. Maybe LeFleur (or McVay) didn't have a strong DC candidate? Fat Wade certainly isn't earning his keep with that D

The only Patriots employee I worry about losing for the post Belichick era is Caserio. He’s the person I can see continuing the structure they have as complete franchise.

We know it's a copycat league and one formula seems to be, hire the next brilliant great coach a few years before he's ready, arm him with your choice of a trusted coordinator to handle the opposite side of the ball, and give him a QB who can compete for a Super Bowl.

This is why you are correct; Flores is a serious candidate. I believe some team, maybe the Dolphins, perceive him like you do. Flores problem is he comes from the wrong side of the line of scrimmage. This works best if your brilliant young mind is on offense and you team him with a Rex Ryan, Greg Schiano, or whomever else you want to take care of the defense. What veteran offensive mind would you team Flores with? Chip Kelly? Brad Childress??? And offense is more important in today's game.

Because of the success here, teams are trying different management/coaching angles. The Raiders are giving complete control to one man. Some are still sticking with tested veteran coaches (Reid/Harbaugh/Pete). And others are trying this approach. That's how I see it anyway.

According to Dolphin reporters interviews with coaches went about 2 hours Flores interview went into the next day.

for a HC, the DC is technically more qualified. The latter has more potential

If the DC has zero experience outside of being on the defensive side of the ball it's a toss up
