Five Thoughts Following the Patriots Addition of Tim Tebow

Good observations, Ian. Thanks for this summation. I think that this section goes directly to the heart of the entire issue:

Tebow may not be an NFL caliber quarterback, but he’s a terrific athlete and a big, strong guy. One of the comments about him two years ago when he was with Denver that Belichick mentioned was about how difficult he was to bring down. If Belichick can convince him to play other positions whether it’s in the passing game or to create mismatches out of the backfield, he could give them an additional threat in the offense. Belichick loves guys who can do more than one thing and after the release of quarterback Matt Kafka, Tebow could also save them a roster spot as an emergency QB.

I'm happy to see him in the Patriot's fold and look forward to the pre-season and seeing how he fits into New England's plans. I'm a Tebow fn, I make no bones about it and I hope he comes in and fires up this team and it's fan base. To my mind, it's a win-win situation.

3) The timing of this move doesn’t make sense
The timing has nothing to do with the Pats. Tebow was available, they have an idea, and they brought him in. I think he is a project -- and knows it.

....bringing in Tebow doesn’t make much sense considering he’ll be taking snaps away from younger players.

Not sure I agree with this point. To start out, he'll be getting QB3 reps in practice. If he performs better than Mallett, then he'll earn QB2 reps. He'll get what he earns. He won't be "taking away" reps from anyone. He's also the same age as Mallett, according to patriots.com.

You should be 100% sure your dont agree with it. It's nonsense.

Nice Job, but I find it hard to believe that there actually are as many 5 thoughts concerning Tim Tebow

I find it hard to believe that the same city that has produced 11 teams that have made it into the finals of their respective sports in the last 11 years. That the same city that showed the rest of the world how to behave with courage, grace and fortitudewhile under attack. The same city that was the very birthplace of our very nation.....is the same one that produced a newspaper that would be as crass as to have Tim Tebow on BOTH sides of their front and back pages

Walking by a newsstand in my local supermarket and I wanted to puke upon seeing the Herald ONCE AGAIN, lower itself to the lowest common denominator. Clearly there weren't any "dead body" or "naked women" pictures gruesome or prurient enough to make the cut today. They should be ashamed.....and I'm sure most of the professional journalists still left in that cesspool probably were.

I'm a big Gwedd fan. I'm happy that you are happy. I'm not a Tebow fan in any sense of the word "fan"|..and that's OK. We're all Patriots fans in the end (or most of us).

Good read

Two thoughts. Timing: The sooner you get him in the better IMO. That gives you more time to determine whether to fish or cut bait - or hopefully give him more time to learn plays designed to utilize his versatility.

On that last point, the more that I think about it, Belichick's statement that Tebow is here as a backup QB is the best news - as it likely means just the opposite in Belichick speak, with BB and McDaniels planning on using him anywhere BUT at QB.

You are too kind, but we are both of the same mold.

My read on this is that if it works out, Brilliant! And if it doesn't work out, Brilliant!

I don't know I have 5 thoughts about Tebow. But I do have some thoughts -- some outlined elsewhere.

Sometimes BB does things that are headscratchers -- but he has earned the space to do unusual things. For "In Bill We Trust".

But signing Tebow takes it to a different planet. BB and McDaniels maybe good coaches -- nay, they are indeed great coaches. But they are not MIRACLEWORKERS. It is one thing to bring in Corey Dillon, Randy Moss -- whose football talent was never questioned. Tebow had a multi-year history of BAD PRACTICES and GAMES -- all captured by NFL cameras. It wasn't as if he was NOT coached. He just did NOT grow. His game at QB stinks. So what is BB saying by signing Tebow?

I don't know what's worse. Yes, it is a low-risk, no guarantee contract. But Bruschi (ESPN) tells us today BB would not have signed Tebow unless he was planning to keep him on the 53 man roster for 2013. Give me a break. The Pats have a history of carrying 2 QBs for many seasons. Are we now to carry 3 QBs-- with Tebow being constantly inactive -- at the HUGE opportunity cast of a talented extra TE like Sudfeld or an extra WR like Thompson or Aiken. That is too heavy a price. It is NOT GOOD for the PATS.

I'm sorry. I'm not buying BB as a miracleworker. I am not buying signing Tebow as "doing what's best for the team", either. I can handle a circus, if the show inside is great. I hate a circus when its empty inside.

One good thing about Tebow being on the Pats, is that BB can put a stop to the ridiculous media (cough cough ESPN cough cough) circlejerk that seems to follow him around.

A very low risk move for the Patriots. Cant really think of a reason not to make this move. If tebow doesnt perform cut him and move on. Thumbs up to Belichick and the Patriots

Wonder if he started catching footballs today?

LOL, and to think a couple weeks ago people were irate at the possibility of Tim Tebow bringing the media nightmare to New England WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Hernandez played in the backfield at H Back. Tebow certainly has the ability to take those snaps. Ive never seen Tebow catch a football, but I know hes a tough runner and should produce some decent YAC.

I kinda like Brady and Tebow behind center at the same time.
