First Preason game on NFL Network Eagles Announcers

I thought Edwards was pretty good and could see a play for what is was. I thought Douglas was all over the map and was awful. The Brady INT was all Brady and not the so called pressure Douglas was talking about.

NFL Network must have changed it up. They use one teams announcers for one half then switch for the other half.

the thing i hated was that they kept making excuses for the eagles, esp. on Edelman's punt return. they kept saying how tired the eagles players were after the botched first attempt due to the penalty. well, herm, don't you think the pats players were tired too? i think they are still bitter about 04'.

Spermie's comments before the re-punt & Edelman's (or as that moron Kevin Reilly called him, Elleman or Elduman) subsequent TD were by far the most insightful thoughts he had all night long. As a communicator, Sperm is atrocious. How the phock did any owner/GM ever believe that he would've made a successful HC?

Not only did Reilly constantly mispronoune names and misstate (or simply not know) facts, but he also stepped on Sperm & Hugh Douglas while they were discussing the previous play, in their incompetent way, and he did so not to set up the next play, but to highlight some stupid graphics about some backups' favorite movies. He also tried to goad the others into declaring that the reason that the Pats were ahead 21-6, and that Brady had played the entire 1st half, and that Chung had blocked the FG attempt, was because Bill wanted to "stick it" to and "run it up" on "Big Red" for the pasting at Foxborough last pre-season. Wanting - and publicly hoping - your team to win during a locally-produced broadcast is fine; the least you should still do, however, is a little research into the opponent, and to perform as a, you know, actual professional PBP broadcaster.

As for Hugh Douglas, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Communications was not his major at Central State. He's been a semi-regular on WIP ever since he retired after their SB loss, so at least he knows his way around a microphone. He could probably offer some credible insight to a telecast if he were paired with a strong PBP guy who could keep his ramblings in check while the game is in progress. He also seems the type who works better without a 3rd partner, esp. one as completely useless as Spermie.

Related to this, they kept taking positions like...

Oh, that pass was incomplete, but [the Eagles QB] sure has a strong arm! Sensational play! (Yeah, but it was incomplete.)

This [Eagles ball carrier] is really exciting. He's got the moves. If he could've beaten one or two more defenders he was gone! (Yeah, but he got tackled in the backfield.)

I kept saying to myself, "That's loser talk."

It was biased as expected, but I wasn't overly annoyed until late in the 1st half. The Patriots were taking it to them (21-6 at that point) and they had to keep bringing up last year's game and how they 'crushed' us. Kept insisting that BB wants revenge (over a stupid preseason game?!) and questioning why Brady was still in the game when Mcnabb came out a series before. Um, idiots, Brady and Maroney haven't played in almost a year maybe the coaches wanted a nice look at them.

That is when the mute feature was utilized by P-licious

even simpler than Brady and Maroney were out was that we lost a offensive series to the punt return so seems to me like Brady had the same # of drives if they were correct about Mcnabb coming out one series before Brady.

The local announcers are not under any obligation to us or anyone else to change how the announce the game just because the NFL network decides to pick up their broadcast. Their role is as much marketing the team as it is objectively announcing a game.

The quality with which they fill that role is another matter. Herm Edwards was incredibly dull for someone who has spent so much time in a leadership role with a team. I couldn't believe how little he had to add. Those guys should blow us away with insights and unexpected observations.
