Would love some feedback, thanks
1. IND-Andrew Luck, QB: I think enough has been said about this pick, Luck has no real holes in his game and the Colts “lucked” into getting a franchise QB to follow right after Manning.

2. WAS-Robert Griffin III, QB: After watching Cam Newton succeed last year, you have to think Griffin will be a stud as well. He is very smart and has insane athletic skills.

3. MIN-Matt Kalil, OT: Kalil has prototypical size to play LT.

4. MIA from CLE-Ryan Tannehill, QB: Miami has had a horrible off season and needs to make a splash. They cannot risk Cleveland taking Tannehill and being left with nothing.

5. TB-Maurice Claiborne, CB: Aquib Talib is one arrest away from being out of the NFL and Barber is way past his prime.

6. STL-Justin Blackmon, WR: The trade down pays off as the Rams still get their guy. Having an elite WR to pair up with Sam Bradford

7. JAC-Melvin Ingram, DE: Jacksonville is always a wildcard when it comes to their pick. Most people have Coples as the #1 DE but Jacksonville likes hard working, high character guys over the most talented players. Ingram is no slouch either.

8. CLE-Trent Richardson, RB: The last few years, Cleveland has traded down and seemed to get the worst of each of those deals. This time the deal pays off as they get one of the elite players in this draft while picking up additional picks

9. CAR-Fletcher Cox, DT: One of my favorite players coming into the draft season has vaulted way up the boards and gets into the top 10. Carolina’s D-line was awful last year and Cox brings versatility to play both DT or DE and can stop the run as well as rush the passer

10. BUF-Reilly Reiff, OT: The Bills were able to address their pass rush needs by getting the best FA in Williams. Now they can address another major need and upgrade a position of real weakness.

11. Kansas City-Dontari Poe, DT: Kansas City wants to run a 3-4 2 gap system that Crennel ran in new England and the only way to run it successfully is with a huge NT to clog the middle. Poe is a more athletic version of Wilfork and similar to Ngata. He is a bit raw but guys that big and athletic do not come around all that often

12. DAL via SEA-Quinton Coples, DE: Dallas makes a small trade up to grab Coples who has slipped. Putting Coples opposite Ware gives the Cowboys an amazing pass rush combination.

13. ARZ-David DeCastro, OG: DeCastro is one of the best players in this draft. He can be plugged in at guard for the next 10 years and play at a pro bowl level. The Cardinals need some continuity on the O-line and it can start with DeCastro.

14. SEA-Luke Kuechly, LB: Seattle’s starting linebacker is Heath Farwell, I think that explains this pick perfectly. They have a surprisingly good defense that gets another boost with Kuechly manning the middle

15. PHI-Michael Brockers, DT: We all know that the Eagles love to build from the inside out and they stick with that once again. Brockers is young but full of talent and Philly needs help at DT.

16. NYJ-Mark Barron, S: Even though the Jets signed Laron Landry, he is only a temporary fix to a problem. Barron is far and away the best safety in the draft and can come in and help right away as well as be a future staple in that secondary

re: First mock w/trades and comments - OLB Nick Perry & DT Kendall Reyes

cont:
17. CIN-Dre Kirkpatrick, CB: The Bengals are starting to look like a team who could take that next step, but they do need help in the secondary as Nate Clements is no spring chicken.

18. SD-Mike Adams, OT: The Chargers did resign Gaither, but before playing well for the chargers, he was having a hard time sticking with other teams they did lose McNeil as well. Adams has great size and athleticism, but may need some time to bulk up a bit, but has the potential to be a franchise left or right tackle

19. CHI-Jonathan Martin, OT: The Bears were able to address their biggest need when they acquired Brandon Marshall, they do however have some holes to fill on the O-line. Martin can play either tackle position if needed.

20. TEN-Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB: While Upshaw does not possess ideal measurable, his production in the SEC proves that measurable are not everything. Upshaw can help upgrade a pass rush that was sorely lacking for the Titans last year.

21. CIN-Cordy Glenn, OT/OG: Both of the Bengals guards are free agents and could be upgraded anyway. Glenn could play tackle as well, but really could be a dominant guard.

22. CLE-Michael Floyd, WR: Floyd slips a bit and the Browns are happy to scoop him up. Floyd runs great routes, is tough to defend and catches everything. He is just great value here

23. DET-Janoris Jenkins, CB: They lost Wright to FA and that left a whole at CB, so the Lions take a risk on a player who has top 10 talent but has some off field issues that make this pick a little risky.

24. PIT-Dont’a Hightower, ILB: Hightower to the Steelers is a perfect marriage. He fits their system perfectly and after the release of Farrior the Steelers have a major need at the position.

25. DEN-Devon Still, DT: The Broncos won the Manning lottery and now can focus their attention to the defense. Still has the label of underachiever on him which is why he is still available here because when he is playing to his potential he is one of the best players in the draft.

26. HOU-Kendall Wright, WR: Houston is starting to look like a real power in the AFC and Wright is a perfect #2 WR to go along with Andre Johnson. The Texans offense could be very potent with a legit 1-2 punch at WR.

27. NE-Nick Perry, OLB: They finally did it, they take an OLB early to appease the masses. Perry is a little stiff, but he is an explosive pass rusher with the size that Belichick wants from his OLB.

28. GB-Whitney Mercilius, OLB: Even though his production was only one year, you cannot deny his production last season. Like NE, the Packers are in the need for some additional pass rush and Mercilius could be the guy.

29. BAL-Peter Konz, OC: The Ravens are another team that looks at the BPA rather than needs, but this time around, BPA and need line up well and the Ravens get a top notch center who can come in and start right away.

30. SF-Stephon Gilmore, CB: The Niners starters at corner played well last season but they still need help back there. Gilmore has great size and instincts and with a little coaching could be a real shutdown corner

31. NE-Kendell Reyes, DE: A bit of a shocker here, but Reyes is the perfect fit for the patriots 3-4 scheme. He is long and uses his hands well, is stout against the run and has the ability to get to the QB as well.

32. NYG-Coby Fleener, TE: The TE position is expanding more and more and Fleener is a matchup problem similar to what Rob Gronkowski has done for the Patriots, another weapon for Eli and the gang.

re: First mock w/trades and comments - OLB Nick Perry & DT Kendall Reyes

Excellent effort. Love the Dallas Seattle trade for Coples. I think Dallas or Houston would be the best place for Coples when all is said and done.

Your mock falls almost exactly as I imagine it would. However with that said and Brockers available at #15 and Keuchly off the board, did you give any thought to us trading #31 and #48 to go up and get Brockers?

If nothing happens between now and the draft personnel-wise, Minnesota needs a cornerback to start week 1. I think they try to trade back a spot or three, but if it comes down to it, Claiborne is going to be very tempting here.

I feel pretty strongly that Richardson's the guy here. Blount is not the answer....always strikes me as a looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane kind of guy.

6. STL-Justin Blackmon, WR: The trade down pays off as the Rams still get their guy. Having an elite WR to pair up with Sam Bradford

Well, in my scenrio, Kalil is still here, which will probably help Bradford more than Blackmon.

7. JAC-Melvin Ingram, DE: Jacksonville is always a wildcard when it comes to their pick. Most people have Coples as the #1 DE but Jacksonville likes hard working, high character guys over the most talented players. Ingram is no slouch either.

And this would then be a good spot for Blackmon

8. CLE-Trent Richardson, RB: The last few years, Cleveland has traded down and seemed to get the worst of each of those deals. This time the deal pays off as they get one of the elite players in this draft while picking up additional picks

Cleveland under Holmgren/Heckert is a BPA outfit. Holmgren had Steve Hutchinson once upon a time, and I can see him going David DeCastro all the way up here. Of course, a trade down outside of the top 10 is a better place to draft him. It's noteable that over the last five years or so, teams have gotten away from the "guards shouldn't be drafted in the first round" edict.

9. CAR-Fletcher Cox, DT: One of my favorite players coming into the draft season has vaulted way up the boards and gets into the top 10. Carolina’s D-line was awful last year and Cox brings versatility to play both DT or DE and can stop the run as well as rush the passer

Agree the pick is going to be defense. I'll submit Coples.

10. BUF-Reilly Reiff, OT: The Bills were able to address their pass rush needs by getting the best FA in Williams. Now they can address another major need and upgrade a position of real weakness.

I see more defense for the Bills. I don't think I've seen Kuechly mocked here yet, but he certainly makes sense.

I don't know what the terms of the proposed trade are, but I think Dallas needs DBs badly, so I don't see the need for them to trade up. I'll keep Seattle here and give them Ingram.

13. ARZ-David DeCastro, OG: DeCastro is one of the best players in this draft. He can be plugged in at guard for the next 10 years and play at a pro bowl level. The Cardinals need some continuity on the O-line and it can start with DeCastro.

A probable pick if he's here. In my scenario, he's gone though, but Reilly Reiff is still hanging around.

14. SEA-Luke Kuechly, LB: Seattle’s starting linebacker is Heath Farwell, I think that explains this pick perfectly. They have a surprisingly good defense that gets another boost with Kuechly manning the middle

I think Dallas could trade down a bit, but I think Dre' Kirkpatrick is the guy.

15. PHI-Michael Brockers, DT: We all know that the Eagles love to build from the inside out and they stick with that once again. Brockers is young but full of talent and Philly needs help at DT.

Cox here.

I don't love Terrence Newman, but he's probably going to end up in Cincinnati, which takes some of the urgency away. This could be the Michael Brockers landing spot.

Jonathan Martin seems to be the much cleaner prospect.

19. CHI-Jonathan Martin, OT: The Bears were able to address their biggest need when they acquired Brandon Marshall, they do however have some holes to fill on the O-line. Martin can play either tackle position if needed.

The pick has to be OL, right? I'm thinking Cordy Glenn, though.

I guess Adams slots here nicely.

This seems like a good spot for somebody else to trade up. They have needs at RB, OT, and possibly DE pending Avril's status. Perhaps someone loves Hightower or Still and wants to leap Pittsburgh? Belichick is in range here....how does he feel about Hightower? Green Bay? Denver? Or Houston, who just traded DeMeco Ryans because he didn't fit Phillips's defense? I'm giving Houston Hightower here.

24. PIT-Dont’a Hightower, ILB: Hightower to the Steelers is a perfect marriage. He fits their system perfectly and after the release of Farrior the Steelers have a major need at the position.

And Pittsburgh can take Still as a consolation prize.

25. DEN-Devon Still, DT: The Broncos won the Manning lottery and now can focus their attention to the defense. Still has the label of underachiever on him which is why he is still available here because when he is playing to his potential he is one of the best players in the draft.

Oh, Denver's going to appease Manning by giving him something on offense. They are a center away from having one of the better O-lines in the NFL. Let's give them Konz.

26. HOU-Kendall Wright, WR: Houston is starting to look like a real power in the AFC and Wright is a perfect #2 WR to go along with Andre Johnson. The Texans offense could be very potent with a legit 1-2 punch at WR.

So this is Detroit per my earlier trade. I think I will give them Jenkins, as you did. Their locker room seems to be strong enough to handle a head case.

27. NE-Nick Perry, OLB: They finally did it, they take an OLB early to appease the masses. Perry is a little stiff, but he is an explosive pass rusher with the size that Belichick wants from his OLB.

I don't think there's any way to justify Perry over Mercilus to New England. Mercilus is a good pick here.....but I think we all know it's getting traded. No, F it....We're drafting Mercilus, damn it. Or do we trade it and target McClellin in the 2nd, and pick up Reyes or someone at 31 instead? I'll stick with Mercilus for now.

28. GB-Whitney Mercilius, OLB: Even though his production was only one year, you cannot deny his production last season. Like NE, the Packers are in the need for some additional pass rush and Mercilius could be the guy.

The Packers pass defense went from one of the best in the league in 2010, to the weak link of the team in 2011. Woodson got old, and their young promising cornerback might never play again. I think this is Gilmore.

29. BAL-Peter Konz, OC: The Ravens are another team that looks at the BPA rather than needs, but this time around, BPA and need line up well and the Ravens get a top notch center who can come in and start right away.

Nick Perry seems a good replacement for Johnson here. They'll address WR later.

30. SF-Stephon Gilmore, CB: The Niners starters at corner played well last season but they still need help back there. Gilmore has great size and instincts and with a little coaching could be a real shutdown corner
I think this has to be a big ugly here, on offense or defense. I think the value here is Jerel Worthy
31. NE-Kendell Reyes, DE: A bit of a shocker here, but Reyes is the perfect fit for the patriots 3-4 scheme. He is long and uses his hands well, is stout against the run and has the ability to get to the QB as well.
We know Belichick's not picking twice in round one if he doesn't have to. Let's trade this to someone in the 39-48 range for Kendall Wright. If BB keeps the pick, it will probably be Reyes...but Wright is also a possibility.

32. NYG-Coby Fleener, TE: The TE position is expanding more and more and Fleener is a matchup problem similar to what Rob Gronkowski has done for the Patriots, another weapon for Eli and the gang.

I'd give them a linebacker here if the value was there. Maybe Doug Martin, since Bradshaw has never been able to stay healthy in a featured role.

Hell of a good job, MPF. We're simpatico on a lot here. Of course I don't know sh!t, so maybe that's not such a good thing. I wasn't even going to do a mock this year, but I think I just did.

Nice Job. I love reading these much more than I would putting one together. As a writer of sometime long posts I appreciate the effort.

That being said, if the draft followed as you laid out. I'd be OK with what you picked, but I would have come away with Marcilus and Gilmore instead of Upshaw and Reyes.

Marcillus can be a Andre Carter in training. Give us more position flexibility as a DE AND OLB. I think he has more pass rush upside than Upshaw. And in today's NFL pass rush skills trump all. Obviously since you had the choice of both, you like Upshaw more. I'd like to hear why?

Usually I would go with the DLman over the DB, But I think we already have 4 pretty solid young DLmen in Pryor, Love, Deadrick, and Brace. I'm not sure Reyes would be a big enough upgrade on those guys that it would be worth passing up a talent like Gilmore. If I were to pick a DLman in the first round, he'd have to be more than a "run stuffer" Ideally a guy like Cox, but he's not going to be there.

Gilmore gives you not only another top CB, but a kid who can either make the move to FS, or allow you to move someone like McCourty or Allen over there

Now in the next round, if you see the need you can go after another 3-4 DE like Clemson's Thompson

Also, since Brokers has been mentioned. I can see the justification for taking him if he fell to us, though I wouldn't do it personally. He reminds me too much of another LSU product, Jonathan Sullivan. My other problem is that he clearly isn't NFL ready physically. Do you want to risk a first round pick on a guy who, even if he pans out, isn't going to offer much production in his first year. High risk and reward in this kid, certainly not great enough to trade up to get.

27. NE-Nick Perry, OLB: They finally did it, they take an OLB early to appease the masses. Perry is a little stiff, but he is an explosive pass rusher with the size that Belichick wants from his OLB.
Unfortunately, I have this gut feeling Bill Belichick will not draft a collegiate defensive end conversion to 3-4 outside linebacker in the first round. Most likely that will occur at the #48 overall pick with the selection of Shea McClellin. Either the New England Patriots will trade down at #27 or select defensive lineman Devon Still or Kendall Reyes. I would prefer Kendall Reyes over Devon Still, though.

Otherwise, great job on your mock draft.

re: First mock w/trades and comments - OLB Nick Perry & DT Kendall Reyes

I agree that the Patriots will look to trade down with one of those 2 picks, but I just couldn't find a suitable partner to make a trade with.

Thanks to all for the input.

You never know which team is desperate enough to trade into the first round and which draft prospect that team is targeting.

Philly might be a trade up partner. They pick 15. Give em their fatty at DT. Andy Reid loves those guys. They pick 51 and 56. If my guy isn't on the board, I'd trade em 27 for both. Then try to trade one of the 2nd's for a first in 2013. Probably 48 and pick up a 5th or 6th this year.

Pretty sure Sullivan was a Bulldog.

re: First mock w/trades and comments - OLB Nick Perry & DT Kendall Reyes

We would likely need to add our 4th to #27 to get 51 and 56, but this seems to be a reasonable idea.

Actually Philadelphia has the 46th and 51st overall draft picks. According to the NFL Draft Pick Trade Chart, the total value of the aforementioned draft selections exceed the value of the 27th overall pick:

#27: 680 points

#46: 440 points
#51: 390 points
Total: 830 points

re: First mock w/trades and comments - OLB Nick Perry & DT Kendall Reyes

I like the Reyes pick. Not sure about Perry. In your mock I would take Gilmore then Reyes with our two picks. I'm not one of those who thinks we really need a CB but Gilmore is significantly too good to pass up at that spot.

re: First mock w/trades and comments - OLB Nick Perry & DT Kendall Reyes

Did Derek Wolfe and Jake Berqute (sp?) go in the 1st round?

:bricks:

re: First mock w/trades and comments - OLB Nick Perry & DT Kendall Reyes

Love every one of your picks up to here. Miami going for Tannehill there would be a reach but I agree with you in the sense that I can absolutely see them doing it to look up a possible future QB. Personally I have them going for Coples int eh first round. They are making the transition on defense from a 3-4 to a 4-3. Need an impact player. Questions on his motor but other than that I like this guy.

10. BUF-Reilly Reiff, OT: The Bills were able to address their pass rush needs by getting the best FA in Williams. Now they can address another major need and upgrade a position of real weakness
.

I would have had Reiff going pretty high prior to the combine but that change when his arms came in pretty short. Most teams won't entertain a tackle int he first round with arms any short than 34" and this guys measured in at a measly 33 1/4". That means he's going to play as a RT or a guard and that's way to high for him at either of those positions. Could he make up for the shorter arms with his athleticism? Yes he absolutely could but it's a scare.

12. DAL via SEA-Quinton Coples, DE: Dallas makes a small trade up to grab Coples who has slipped. Putting Coples opposite Ware gives the Cowboys an amazing pass rush combination.

No sure how I would rate Coples as a prospective OLB but it could be interesting. He needs to work on that motor though! Probably more of a 4-3 end in my book.

15. PHI-Michael Brockers, DT: We all know that the Eagles love to build from the inside out and they stick with that once again. Brockers is young but full of talent and Philly needs help at DT.

Totally see this happening but think he has more bust potential in a scheme like this. Needs to be in a more conventional two-gap style of defense. If he fell i think the Patriots would fall in love with him. No explosiveness in this guy what so ever though.

22. CLE-Michael Floyd, WR: Floyd slips a bit and the Browns are happy to scoop him up. Floyd runs great routes, is tough to defend and catches everything. He is just great value here

This would be a dream pick for the Browns and could see it happen!

24. PIT-Dont’a Hightower, ILB: Hightower to the Steelers is a perfect marriage. He fits their system perfectly and after the release of Farrior the Steelers have a major need at the position.

These guys have a massive number of needs. Could see them go O Line, D Line, Linebacker....think he presents very good value for them here.

27. NE-Nick Perry, OLB: They finally did it, they take an OLB early to appease the masses. Perry is a little stiff, but he is an explosive pass rusher with the size that Belichick wants from his OLB.

Love this pick here. I'm high on Perry since he came iin at the combine and weighed in with 20 lbs of extra muscle. He has the tools despite the concerns about his upper body length. Guy has bulked out too when I didn't think he could. Excellent pad level, dips his pads and turns the corner well...got the speed...could be an impact player at the DE spot and potentially play an elephant role..although not the biggest fan of his hips and movement!

32. NYG-Coby Fleener, TE: The TE position is expanding more and more and Fleener is a matchup problem similar to what Rob Gronkowski has done for the Patriots, another weapon for Eli and the gang.

Had this guy going to the Giants ever since the Super Bowl. Love him...excellent pro day. He'll make Manning even more deadly. Perfect hybrid fit here.

#33 and #34 I suspect.

HT WT Arm 40 SS Cone Rep Vert

Kendall Reyes 6037 299 33.25 4.79 4.53 7.43 36 34.5

Fletcher Cox 6035 298 34.5 4.79 4.53 7.07 30 26

They're not all that different. Cox is the more fluid and has longer arms, Reyes is more explosive and stronger. As Cox won't be there, I don't think Reyes is too bad an alternative at all.

re: First mock w/trades and comments - OLB Nick Perry & DT Kendall Reyes

Did Derek Wolfe and Jake Berqute (sp?) go in the 1st round?

LOL! I had Wolfe at 7 to the Jags and Bequette to the Dolphins at 8 but then the trade scenario happened and they slipped. Weird.

re: First mock w/trades and comments - OLB Nick Perry & DT Kendall Reyes

Maybe it's just because I've been following a zillion different mock drafts...but your analysis for each pick almost seems verbatim to other site's mock drafts.
