Finally: an explanation for Ja'Lynn Polk's putrid rookie season

Add K Boutte I think he has a lot of Upside: He's been our Best WR this year and leading all WR's in snaps. I expect him to be better with the right WR acquisitions next year. Nobody expected him to make the last cut down and he did he D.I.D.

Boutte’s 40 was 4.50

Jerry Rice’s 40 time was 4.71

Still not ready to give up on Polk and Baker. I have heard this system is overly complicated for WRs…
Genuinely curious where you heard this from. I just read an article on Masslive where Douglas was saying learning the system was easy. Is Douglas just really smart or is the system not that difficult? Wondering how much stock to put into the Polk issues.

Well, if you're going to call him "Slow Polk"...his 40 time was 4.52 and Baker's was 4.54.
Well after Javon’s quote regarding having fans “bringing some popcorn” when watching him play, I suppose “Slow Pop” would be bc a good match to go along with “Slow Polk”!

So now we’re expected to believe that “Allstate” (aka: Polk - the self described receiver with the best hands in the league) who has 12 receptions in 12 games has hit the proverbial Rookie Wall ?! This is hard to believe since the Huskies played 15 games last year and Polk played in all 15 games with 69 receptions apparently not hitting any walls…..

No one said he hit “ the rookie wall.”

But, by whom? Aye, there's the rub.

He has to fix himself. I believe he’s a hard working player, and that he will bust his ass to get back on track next season. Will he be a 100 catch player, very unlikely, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him rebound to a 60-70 catch level.

Yeah, he is definitely still recoverable. He has shown good things at times that just haven't translated to production. There's a decent chance he can get something going next year and still be an NFL wide receiver, but if he is still struggling at the same level midway into next year I'd be ready to cut bait.

I agree. If they get into November next year and he still isn’t producing then he’s going into bust territory.

It's not like Glenn wasn't able to get it together. He set the NFL rookie record for receptions for a WR, after all. He made one of the great catches on one of the great passes in the playoffs against Pittsburgh. Against ROD WOODSON....in the FOG. Drew threw a perfect pass and Glenn made a textbook reception. One of my favorite moments of that Super Bowl run.

Yes it’s quite amazing that people forget this.

1132 yards as a rookie in 96

1147 yards in 1999

Brady’s 2nd career start, Glenn went OFF against San Diego in 01. 7 catches for 110 and 1 TD. Him and Brady had amazing chemistry!

Brady once said Glenn is the most naturally gifted athlete he’s ever played with

1996 might be the greatest draft for wide receivers I have ever seen…wow

Look at the wideouts that came out of that draft

Considering how little they yielded from their 4th round picks and after, Wolf still could have moved up by packaging those picks that have been worthless so far for Leggette (who I wanted, as I believed him to be closer to A.J. Brown). Basically, Wolf could have pulled it off, but didn't try hard enough. And now, except for Maye, we have a bunch of picks used on players that will probably be useless to this team.

Yep, we could've offered #s 34 & 137 and waited to see if Barfalo preferred that to 33 & 141... Haven't seen or heard anything to indicate that was the case, however, so I'm going on the ass-umption that Wolfie didn't try to do even that.

It’s behind a paywall but all I saw was that he had some struggles and has been hard on himself.
In that same article he briefly mentioned the rookie wall that I saw. It was more of a passing comment. I read the whole interview but can’t find it now. The below image briefly quotes it.

i haven't read the 7 pages of comments on this thread so forgive me if it has been discussed, but where the hell is Javon Baker. I thought he was one of our better picks but is a no show so far in his rookie season.

Same thing that’s now being said about Polk, can’t grasp the system.

Last I heard he wasn't playing because he was struggling to learn the playbook...

Poor Tyler Hughes will never work in the NFL again, at least not sniff a wr room,
If Mayo is back next year his scape goats for execution are lined up, as a previous poster said you almost have to fire Mayo because that good coaches come and work under him. Knowing the situation.

No you have to clean up from top to bottom that means Wolf more than likely goes as well. You thank him for Maye and tell him he bombed the rest of the draft. And you go and snatch someone anyone from the Rams front office. And hire a Offensive HC.

I still hold out hope for Polk, if he can get his head (and hands) connected to one another, I still think there could be a decent WR lurking in there somewhere. Yes he has been a disappointment since being drafted, but he wouldn't be the first to bounce back.
