Mike O'Hara, of The Detroit News, reports the Detroit Lions released CB Fernando Bryant Monday, Feb. 25.

Another option at least to look at and see how he could help our secondary if Samuel and Gay leave.

I'd be wary of anyone who got cut by the Lions, esp a defensive player who had a base salary of a reasonable 3.5 mil.

He's only 30, so that would be surprising. Wouldn't be the first time someone retired early, but still...

I've never seen him play, and the numbers on a cornerback are kind of misleading sometimes. Anyone know what kind of corner he is? Good one on one? Good against the run? etc...

He used to be a man to man cover corner who found a 2nd life playing in the Lions' Tampa 2. Speculation is he was cut because Brian Kelly is now available as a FA, the Lions finally have some decent young backups, and they are targeting the position in the draft.

So basically, he's an average Tampa 2 corner and a mediocre man to man guy. Can he play Cover 3, that would be the question the Pats would want to answer. He's not a bad tackler. Could be a situational backup.

What is interesting is that there will be a plethora of CBs...LBs..WRs..that will be available...many many players. It will be interesting to see who the Pats go after.
