I suppose this is not a surprise, based on the signing of Reggie Gilliam.

I thought of Brock Lampe as one of the top-three original UDFA signings a year ago (Lampe, Larison, Chism), before landing on IR.

Hey, Bam Childress just needed more time. This is more TJ Moe.
Maybe you’re right, but didn’t Moe blow out his achilles? At least Moe was athletically gifted, Lampe was a stiff.

The only reason people had a chubby for Lampe last offseason was McDaniels desire for a FB, some video of him blocking stiffs at Northern Illinois University in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and of course… a PFF grade that said he was outstanding.

Ignore that he wasn’t strong, fast, mobile, explosive or athletic, ignore the lower level of competition all these highlight videos were showing….

Stick to athleticism, production and your own scouting. PFF grades are garbage.

His name alone is a reason to be released. We can't have terrible names on this roster like the late Manning and Luck's Colts.

I am a bit surprised at this release timing considering camp has just started. What if he is signed by another team and then Gilliam gets hurt a few days later? Now you are back to your FB being Jack Westover.

Then you won't get the player you wanted. I have exactly zero reason to believe that Lampe had a chance to be on our Practice Squad. If he did, he wouldn't have been cut.

I’m assuming they have seen him for a year, how he rehabbed and worked at getting better, or didn’t, and made their decision about his future potential based on that. When they needed a roster slot it was time to move on.

Most of the time these decisions make sense in the long run, though occasionally it blows up in a team's face (my "favorite" example of the latter being losing Ryan Izzo to IR and Brandon Bolden to the Dolphins to get literally nothing out of Amara Darboh and Chad Hansen).

Can't find a use for a healthy back at the start of camp?

The timing of it makes me wonder if he's still injured / still healing...

I had high hopes for the Lamp well...Bye!

I agree here
who is to say Gilliam does not injure?
showcase Lampe in some preseason/joint practice situations. maybe another team has interest

Its a sign that Lamp Sucks from their vantage point.

he was on the verge of making the 53 man before he injured
they gave him significant money last year to sign him as an udfa
who knows the teams point of view? not me. not you.
but if Gilliam injures, imo....short sighted decision

We should get TE Cole Kmet from Da Bears for K Boutte. It's the only player swap I'm interested in at the moment. Jack Westover must have pictures of someone.
