@Rapsheet #Falcons C Alex Mack is dealing with a swollen, painful sprained ankle, source said. He returned Sunday, but unlikely to practice this week

@Rapsheet
With a chance to win a Super Bowl in his 1st playoffs, #Falcons C Alex Mack (ankle) is expected to play in SBLI. But will try to rest it.

He's been the FA signing of the year. If this injury affects how he deals with Branch and potential Hightower blitzes then it could change the game. Reminiscent of Gronk SB46?

Sounds like it's a legit badly sprained ankle. Of course he's playing but it could be a big problem for them in the middle of the line.

He'll be alright Centers are naturally Tough and plus we have a vested interest in him for that 3rd Round compensation Pick from Cleveland.

I thought he might. He was slow getting up.

Although it seemed to me he was slowing down a bit already in the last games . compared to #1 stud C from a month ago. Its a long season for OL men and Branch with some 50% lesser snapcount is waiting for them (like he destroyed another star C Pouncey on Sun)..

An injured center and a right guard who has been a liability at times this season.

This is a non-story or at best a minor snippet. It's an ankle guys, on a player who isn't making severe cuts. He'll be fine for this game.

I’d like to see you plant your foot and full 250-270lb body weight forward, trying to block a DL coming up your face. Unless he’s playing seated in a wheelchair, there’s absolutely zero chance this will not adversely affect him.

Yeah, the game is two weeks away, and at this point in the season how many players are at full health anyway? Probably not a big deal.

And a left guard who committed two false starts while playing at home.

Yeah, when do centers ever have to move laterally?

Would be nice if he could commit a couple in the SB. But he's been very good in pass protection for them - probably their best OL in that regard.

Had this strange thought yesterday out of the blue that Barkevious Mingo would be part of a game plan specific A-gap blitz package. Basically, a poor man's Whitney Mercilous, and what he did to Andrews in the Divisional. Now reading this report that Mack may be playing on a bum ankle - hmmm . . .

No Offence but I stopped reading right there...I think it's clear Mingo isn't smart enough to grasp this Defense. Plus his basketball players frame is a liability against the Run and *Pass*. *He's probably very easy to block* I can clearly see why he's a ST's player only.

It's a high ankle sprain. Either way he has to pass protect.

Most ankle injuries for offensive linemen are high ankle sprains. This is definitely noteworthy, despite other claims to the contrary in this thread.

That interior OL is vulnerable.

Big news imo. If the ankle is severe enough, we already like to blitz the A gap, so this should benefit us.
