While contemplating injuries is almost always unpleasant, I do occasionally find it amusing to start a discussion on the question of who the emergency backups are if one unit is suddenly devasted by an epidemic of in-game injuries.

Here are the ones that seem easy:

K -- either Welker or, more likely, whoever the punter is
P -- Gostowski, although he came to kicking late in life -- can Welker punt too?
LS -- Hochstein (he had the role before)

QB -- Troy again. Among non-QBs, he knows the offense wayyy better than anybody except Faulk, and he was the choice last year. If he's on PUP, then it's Faulk.
WR -- Faulk and the TEs.

DT -- the DEs
DE -- the bigger LBs
CB -- the safeties, Troy
S -- the CBs, A. Thomas
LB -- the ST-specialist LBs, the strong safeties

I'm still waiting for the report of Welker taking FGs in camp

You forgot, back up TE, Mike Vrabel!

At some point later in camp
Coach will offer the team a day off the next day
IF some designated favorite of fate
kicks a 30-yard FG.

This year, it'll be Welker's turn to become that hero.
Just watch.

Ball's down, kick's up!
Wait, it hooks left and it's NO GOOD!

Team embraces Wanker and tosses the frakin guy into the sideline trash bins
