To nitpick, Belichick coached the Browns from 1991-1995, which the article described (twice in the same paragraph) as "the mid-90's". But aside from that, it was a very good article which showed a lot of empathy for the Coach. It was also nice to hear from this author that most of the Cleveland media have come around in their opinions of Belichick.

No truer words were ever spoken about BB... even though I think he is much more broad than this, in the context of the NFL anyways.

And of course this will happen with the Boston Press. Look what happened with Ted Williams. If any press group typifies the "don't know what you've got till it's gone" attitude, it's that miserable fellowship.

As to the article itself: it's a pleasant respite from all the Belichick is a Neanderthal pieces, but the part about a blood feud with Mangini is over the top, and, if the end of the Pats-Jets playoff game is any evidence, wrong.

Williams was an enigma though. He did have a raging war with the press from probably his second or third year on, and pulled some not-so-nice stuff with the fans also, like a crotch grabbing incident at Fenway. He was my childhood sports hero nonetheless. Whose "fault" was it with the press? Who could say? But, it's easy to blame the press. They're a dime a dozen but there was only one Ted.
