Hey, PFnV, grammar maven! Is it OK to write "treaded" as the past form of "tread" in the U.S. (we say "trod")? Or is it that this guy Felger can't write English?

I'm only the poor man's grammar maven, but I'll take a shot -

I'm sure any number of dictionaries will allow "treaded" as a past tense of "tread." But America and England are pretty much in agreement on this one, as I understand it: "They trod on the field (or pitch)" would be preferred.

I'll stipulate however that I've never heard that anybody "trod water" in the US; they "treaded water" here.

That article was just plain old stupid. "The old Harrison makes that play in his sleep" "He has to get over his fear" blah,blah. I'm sure only Harrison know's what he is feeling when he is out there and I bet it bothers players when someone like some dweep reporter presumes and writes about it. Like they would have any idea.
