I would think that the prospect of a posssible 2010 rookie cap might significantly affect compensation for the top 10 players, and have little effect after that.

There seem to be two effects operating in different directions.

1) Round One will be worth more since there will be more juniors wanting to get in this draft, in anticipation of a future rookie cap. This may move the grey line between blue and red chip players from 10-12 to 15-17 if five more top juniors than normal declare.

2) Round One will be worth less since teams will be less likely to overpay for a top pick with the rookie cap potentially coming next year.

What say you all?

I assume you mean 2011, as there is essentially zero chance of a rookie cap in this year's draft.

In any case, I tend to agree with you; top of the draft picks this year will likely be worth less this year, and more in future years.
