Edelman offered 3-year deal, he opts to test free agency

Yeah, even if he gets the deal he's aiming, he better sweat blood and produce or he's a strong candidate to become a financial liability in 2 years.

I really believe he's a product of Brady and our system, not taking anything from him, he deserves to be paid, but he has no abilities to play in the outside, Welker is the best slot receiver of all times and got 6 million in the open market. I think Edelman shot his own foot not taking that deal, if and only if those numbers were real.

I'm still hoping he gets re-signed. I think he's a dynamic player

I want the Pats to re-sign Edelman, but I still don't think it is crucial. He basically replaced Wes' production last year, but I still don't know if he isn't replaceable himself. His punt return ability may be harder to replace than his receiver production.

And his injury history is as much of a concern as Amendola's.

I never believed that Patriots had to resign him and I do not think he is worth that much in cap space. He certainly is worth more to the Patriots than any other team and that is bad news for the Edelperson.

Don't dismiss Edelman's worth, with our Defense now fixed via D Revis we just need a decent Offense to make it all work. My point is we resign Edelman add a little more guranteed say 9Mill draft a WR and a TE. Bam! Offense fixed we don't need a Spectacular with this Defense. We now have a Defense that can STOP people all we need now is a Offense that can move the chains consistently...Edelman has proven he can do that last year.

This is a what have you done for me lately League Edelman was not injured last year that we know. When it comes on to his injury history its not like we are talking about injury proned Gronk and Amendola.:snob: I like Edelman's upside going forward he knows Brady and our Offense we have the money to keep him and not break the bank. With Edelman we would have the same Offense with an Elite Defense why mess that up.

I am still hoping the Pats retain Edelman. His replacement will be
a couple of wide receivers like Molasses Mike Jenkins who won't make the team. BB still seems uninterested in providing Brady with good wide receivers.
Last year it took half a season to get the offense going.

Thats exactly what I am afraid of why go through that painfull process again. Plus we have a young WR in a boot for the next Three Months. Don't let Cleveland sign him BB just give him 9Mill guranteed if he doesn't accept that he's all about the $$$. Choosing to play for Cleveland our the Patriots.

If you think Edelman doesn't have a significant injury history, I've got a great deal on a bridge. . . .

Huh? did you seriously say that Edelman is not injury prone? You do realise that last year was his first healthy season in the NFL, right?

To be honest, If we lose Edelman but then go and get a more outside WR to compliment Dobson/Amendola I think we would be fine....

the market for WR's seems to be soft this offseason though. so there is a possibility we could re-sign edelman.

All I am saying is maybe last year is the Start of something for Edelman who played all 16 including Playoffs. His injury history is not a mash unit like your Sig or Amendola.

except this year we go into training camp with Thompkins, Dobson, Boyce, And Amendola. All returning after seeing targets the year before

Hate to say it, but if Edelman goes to Cleveland, that may be the last time we hear about him. At least he'll get paid.

Just because he was healthy one year doesn't guarantee he will be the next. And just because Gronk was injured two years in a row means he will miss another game ever again. Same with Amendola.

Injury histories are always a bit of concern. Some people cure their injury histories and sometimes they are just lucky one year and not the next.

I don't know if there is much upside with Edelman. I think he pretty much reached his peak. It was really good down the stretch last year, but I don't see him getting much better.

Is Cleveland looking at him as a quarterback or a wide out?

how so? Gronkowski played 2 1/2 years before ever missing a game...Edelman had his first full season..

if Amendola stays healthy next year, is it a start of something and he no longer is injury prone?

I am surprise the pats haven't looked at more WRs. but i am guessing it will be like last year. He will leave and new guy will be here within hours

the WR market seems to be very slow this year...lots of guys out there Nicks, sanders, edelman, jones who havent really been attached to anyone yet

only big WR signings so far have been Golden tate and Eric Decker.

It would be nice to have Julian back but I am sure that whomever the slot receiver is they will have great numbers with Brady .... slot receivers suit his style IMO. Even without a great slot receiver the Patriots could utilize Shane Vareen even more if needed as a receiver.

I do not think the Patriots need to use crucial cap dollars on the slot position we have greater needs elsewhere on the OL and DL ... where the game is almost always won and lost anyways. Our OL needs some serious upgrade in the middle and another pass rusher. Fill those needs in free agency and we can grab a TE, DT and OL in rounds 1-3 of the draft.

There's a reason Amendola got that contract last year and Edelman didn't.

Potential everybody in NFL has, reality is another thing, even being made of glass Amendola made a name in St. Louis and was a free agent that teams would pursuit on the market. No one knew Edelman aside from Pats fans and staff, he got the only offer on the table.

This year though he made his name, and deserves a good deal, but I'm fine going with Amendola. We have a lot of depth to play in the slot.

Amendola was injured in game one and played injured all year. Dobson
is recovering from surgery on a stress fracture of the foot. Boyce is
coming off the IR. To boot, Thompkins, Dobson, and Vereen were
among the league leaders in dropped balls. Edelman had very few
dropped balls.
