Ed Werder: Jimmy G NOT expected to be traded

If I was Garoppolo and the Patriots franchised me next year, I would sign the tender right away and refuse to accept any trades*. That's a cool $20 million guaranteed simply for pushing free agency back one year and I think that would make me more money in the long run.

*By "refuse to accept any trades" what I mean is refuse to negotiate a new contract with any team that traded for me because no one would trade for me without an agreement in principle for a new deal - and even if they did I am still in the same position of being 1 year away from free agency.

LOL... I was just gonna post this OTHER tidbit...

Adam Schefter believes Patriots will end up trading Jimmy Garoppolo

...getting dizzy...
why is Dion Lewis so involved in this

Tedy B on Jimmy G trade. Tedy notes how well Jacoby is viewed in the building @ Foxboro.

Cracks me up when I read ESPN and their "sources within the organization". For as far as we know, this is their source within the organization:

Doesn't mean that Jimmy G will be traded. Just means I don't trust ESPN.

Sounds like Patriots propaganda. They want more out of his potential suitors so they're saying "eh, f*** it, we'll just keep him if you guys don't really want him bad enough to pay up..."

I think there probably is some turmoil in the Pats organization. Some people might see JG as the future.. but at the same time if the rumors are true and they are looking to extend Brady to lengthen out his contract.. then wtf? They can't keep Jimmy waiting forever.

Ha! They had no case whatsoever and just assaulted the character of the GOAT with ZERO repeat ZERO evidence.
They are probably laughing that it was so easy to get away with, and will be quick to up something new if they feel it is needed.

yeah it was easy.. it only costed millions of dollars, segregated one of the biggest fan bases in the NFL. And the first federal judge big **** Berman ruled in favor of Brady.. So when it went to appeals court the NFL was actually put into a position where they had to win or there CBA and over all power that article 46 has.. could have been put in jeopardy. Not to mention New England fans see Roger Goodell has public enemy #1. When a whole region hates you and boos you off the biggest stage of the NFL year at the Super Bowl thats an embarrassment for the NFL.

The thing is, if the propaganda is thinly-veiled that we can easily spot it as fans, then why couldn't other front offices spot it, too? Also, isn't the reverse true as well? If Cleveland/San Fran/Chicago publicly float reports that they're not interested in a trade (and New England believes that trading Jimmy G is the right answer), then conceivably, that propaganda could lower his trade value ("oh ****, we scared off all of our suitors with our asking price!").

Personally, I don't think this is propaganda at all... I think it's just a flat-out made-up report to meet an article quota. I think a huge chunks of rumors in the sports reporting world are pulled out of thin air.

This.

This this this.

This.

I think Ed Werder's source might be Charlie Casserly

"Jimmy G not expected to be traded" is exactly what you'd like the media to say to drive the asking price up.

I thought of another way the Pats could spite the Omissioner.
NFL* trades normally involve players and draft picks, but do not have to be right?

"The New England Patriots have traded QB Jimmy Garoppolo and a box of 100 Goodell clown shirts of assorted sizes, to Cleveland for the #12 and #33 selections in the 2017 draft".

It would be even better if it was done during the draft and Goodell had to read the card handed to him with the terms of the trade.

Trading him is the best bet. Potentially great return and able to control his destination.

I really don't think Cleveland will trade for Jimmy G. I think they are building the team brick by brick, and are not concerned with immediate success. I think with the #1 they will trade down, unless they think their guy is can't miss HOF type player, which would shock me. I think there is a good chance they trade down with 12 as well.
I think Cleveland's strategy is to use to the draft to build their entire roster, and be patient while the team grows up.
Whether that is right or wrong, or turns out to work or not, that's where I think they are going.
I expect Kessler to be their QB this year.

If I look at it from the other direction, I trade a 1st round pick for Jimmy without hesitation. You need a good quarterback to win in the NFL. If you're Cleveland,f or example, every year you don't have one WASTES one year of five for which you have control of those draft picks.

Jimmy's not a sure thing, but look at the Pats THIS YEAR to see many 1st round sure things who weren't, like Mingo (#6), McClellin (#19), Cooper (#7)...

Chris Long (#2) has had a good career in the NFL, but he's never been more valuable to a franchise than a good quarterback would be.

If there was a top-end prospect in the draft at QB this year, I might defer, but from everything I've heard, there's no one close to Jimmy. The free agent retreads aren't much to sneeze at, either. Romo, if he's cut or traded, will be an overpaid huge risk.

Cousins won't leave Washington, I bet. There's a reason the market is heating up for Jimmy.

If I'm Cleveland, with two first round picks and the first pick in the second round, and over $100 million in Cap Space, I make my move right now, and do it with purpose - even if it meant (because of SF and Chicago) dealing the 1st pick in the mix. I grab Jimmy, shore up the OL with a couple of FA's...and with Gordon (hopefully) and Pryor, I'm off to the races.

Look no further than the Raiders for the blueprinit. Forever losers UNTIL they found that missing QB piece and brought in some high-priced free agents. And look how fast they imploded when Carr went down. It's all about the QB.

Maybe the source is the deflator or dorito dink?

Of course it is... A top 10 QB and average everything else can get you in the playoffs. The Patriots have demonstrated this for years with the one caveat being they also have the best Coach in the league. 2009-2013 the Patriots made the playoffs every year but they were flawed in some major area's. But still managed AFC titles/appearances and a Super Bowl appearance.
