My Current MUST DRAFT Prospects (If the draft was tomorrow)
Doing my latest mock, I started thinking about must draft prospects. Based upon current need and value. Pre-season edition. It will be interesting to see how this changes over time.
1. Chris Cole, LB, Georgia
I really find it hard to look past him either as a WILL or a LB/EDGE hybrid. Linebackers do not normally cover like he does. The possible pass rush upside is a welcome bonus. There is only one cautionary note on Cole - how important a first round CB is.
2. Zabien Brown, CB, Alabama
Kelley Jones, CB, Mississippi State
Ashton Hampton, CB, Clemson
Pick one of the above. I think these are the three best man coverage corners for now, outside Moore and Robinson. All that could change but if we are going first round corner, a distinct possibility, these are the three guys for me.
3. Ray Coney, LB, Texas A&M
Unless he fails at the step up to power 4 football, he's just too good a run defending MLB. Has the smarts and discipline too.
4. Terry Moore, S, Ohio State
Provided he's back to full fitness, he's going to be a big riser from his current position. I don't know if he's at KJ Bolden/Tae Johnson level as a single high free safety, but he's a damn sight closer to them than he is to the 300s he's currently listed at on the consensus board. Until he gets up into the first round, he's arguably the best value prospect in the draft provided he's 2024 Terry Moore.
5. Jide Abasiri, DL, USC
I just can't look past a 1.59s 10 yard split for a guy this big and long. for that reason alone, based upon value and upside, he's a must draft for me.
6. Elijah Green, CB, Tulsa
Demello Jones, CB, Georgia
Not quite at must draft level like the above, but I think both are much better than their current rankings. I just want to see them play before anointing them.
There are other prospects I like, maybe more than some of the above (Dashawn Spears, Clev Lubin, AJ Green for eg), but I can make cases for why I wouldn't draft them if the draft was tomorrow. I really can't with those above.
