I lived on Belmont St(Next to St. Francis)until about 70' I still have family up there, some will never move, property is worth too much $.
It's VERY different today, that's for sure.

Almost unrecognizable the last time I was down to Carr's for a funeral a few years back. But that's the way of things

I've been there more times than I care to admit, last time was around 2 years ago.
Things are much different these days.

I hear you, saw a lotta folks off outta Carr's over the years but I do believe that's one place I will not be returning to. I've got no people left there anymore

All hail to original Bostonians.
I'm JP and Dorchester so I don't claim one place as my own but two.
As a young kid, lived in one of the toughest parts of JP, Montebello Road not far from Franklin Park. Lot of hoodlums, winos( the old Orange Line El was just a block from my house- winos, junkies, you name it). My Dad used to stand up to the hoodlums and chase them out of the hood. The last straw for him was when one of the punks threw a huge rock through a window which landed inches from my newborn baby sister, in her crib.
He went flying out the door and lucky for the punk he couldn't catch him.
But then he was determined. He bought a building lot in Quincy and built a beautiful house.
When I left home I lived in a few spots in Dorchester, last one on Tonawonda St near Fields Corner. That was in the 80's and then the Jamaican Cocaine Wars started. There's a black church on Tonawonda(neighborhood was 90% black but I never had any problems) and one Sunday morning one of theJamaican gangs opened fire with automatic weapons as the church was letting out. They killed multiple people and wounded lots more. I walked right by that church about 10 minutes before the shooting on my way to the gym. Those Jamaicans were crazy and it lit a fire under the Mayor and Police Dept. Innocent civilians were killed. They declared war on the Jamaicans and pretty much wiped those scumbags out.
Eventually my girlfriend and I bought a condo in JP near the Arboretum. Very nice. Got married.Soon moved Down South in 1991.
But I will always consider myself a Bostonian. Had friends from all over the city, back in the older days before gentrification. JP, Dorchester,Southie,West Roxbury,Roxbury,Eastie,South End,North End. And of course. Ctown. I miss the City. But I have kids who are still in school down here and I'm not leaving until they're grown and settled.
But I'll always be a New Englander, also lived in Maine, NH,RI and the Cape.
And I have a special regard for all native Bostonians.
Damn, what a motormouth rant. Thats enough Jamesons for me

If you're still upright then it's not enough Jame-o. If you're on the floor then maybe cut it back to a couple of fingers at a time. Or at least that's what I was taught.

I've also been to the 1 next to St. Francis a few times, probably because Carrs was jammed up.
I'm gonna have to deal with that sucky parking again, cuz Thankfully I still have some kicking around over there.
Hopefully not anytime soon though.

Sound advice

Sawyers maybe? TBH I don't even know if it's still there
Don't remember the name, it was next to the pool, to the left of the Church(Family always used Carr unless we couldn't).
Favorite memories from way back then were the carnival down at the neck, and the parade of course....most peeps don't even know there was ever a carnival there, but it was fun.

We went up there (way after we moved)for those every year.
Now every time I go in there it's for a Wake/Funeral (Holy Cross burial usually), which is horrible.
Ah well, people have it worse.
You can probably guess the Nationality

What are these “real spirits” of which you speak? Is there something else I should be exploring beyond my existing scotch and bourbon collections?

Or are those a different kind of spirits, like the ghosts Sam Darnold was seeing?
Remy Martin XO - live like a king. Not the mouthwash @maust drinks.

You are going to get on the bad side of @Patjew. You can drink bourbon, have 5 boys, defer to your wonderful wife, but all is lost if you do not recognize that it is, and will forever be going forward, Ef-ton of milk!! If you have never seen the bad side of Patjew, believe me you do not want to go there.

In the meantime while you wallow in your borboun sty, I would be excited to ship you some real spirits via the Internet if you PM your address.
True, it is wise not to irk me, lest I open an F-ton of whoop-ass on you.

Same tier as Canobie Lake Park back in the day.
The greatest experience we had in that area, until my parents bought a place on Arlington Pond in Salem NH, was a place called Bella Vista in Windham NH. It was a tiered hill leading down to a lake and each tier allowed you to park your car with a bbq area right in back of your car. The earlier you got there the closer to the lake you'd be. Sometimes we'd go in a caravan with the cousins. It was fantastic.

Once again my man @Patjew is a true mensch. @One-If-By-Sea you're lookin' a tad cognac soaked my dude

Im a Father of 3 sons as well.
One of my favorite stories about our youngest son:

The men in my family have larger noses and both the men and women on my wife's side are bald or baldish.

Back when our youngest son was 12 he comes up and asks me what my nose looked like when I was 12. Of course I looked at him and said that it looked just like his did then. But then I added, don't worry, at least you have your mother's hair.

And here we are now and he and his brother both ended up with their mom's nose and my hair.

5 here, my long suffering bride is one hell of a Boy Mom

We had neighbors around the corner from us in Dorchester on Trull Street who also had 5 kids, all boys... And another couple in Savin Hill, he was my dad's Best Man & she was one of my mom's bridesmaids, who had 7 kids, ALL boys... And take my wife, she has 5 brothers PLUS 4 sisters!
