Correct - for cap space purposes, being a Pro Bowl alternate is the same as not making it at all. The player has to actually be voted in as one of the original group to have his 5th year option increase.According to the CBA, if a player is named to the Pro Bowl, it increases the amount of his 5th year option by a not insignificant amount. However, for the purposes of the CBA, being named as a Pro Bowl alternate does not count as making the Pro Bowl.
That said - if he is voted in within the next couple years then that means he's doing great, so what do we have to complain about? And if he isn't voted in for any of those years, then he probably hasn't worked out, so will we be looking to ink the 5th year option QB salary at that point anyway?
