Drake Maye named Pro Bowl Replacement

This is not good for future cap space.
It doesn't matter, because...

According to the CBA, if a player is named to the Pro Bowl, it increases the amount of his 5th year option by a not insignificant amount. However, for the purposes of the CBA, being named as a Pro Bowl alternate does not count as making the Pro Bowl.
Correct - for cap space purposes, being a Pro Bowl alternate is the same as not making it at all. The player has to actually be voted in as one of the original group to have his 5th year option increase.

That said - if he is voted in within the next couple years then that means he's doing great, so what do we have to complain about? And if he isn't voted in for any of those years, then he probably hasn't worked out, so will we be looking to ink the 5th year option QB salary at that point anyway?

Who is the coach in the pro bowl?
It’s not someone who is going to get a competitive advantage picking Mayes Brain is it?

Some of you don't seem to be aware they don't actually play a game anymore. It is just skills competitions and dodgeball and nonsense like that.

lets be real, he did not have a pro bowl caliber season... but eh, good for him... hope kraft had to pay him more for making the PB roster

all that nonsense is what did in robert edwards career... the nfl should just cancel it all

In before people start counting this as an actual Pro Bowl selection because they like him better than Mac.

I hope he doesn’t follow the Mac career arc ^^’
First thing I thought of when I read the thread title.

Lord, please deliver us from the rookie alternate pro bowl QB jinx.
- Jameis Winston

Still not as bad as Tyler Huntley making it after starting 4 games for the Ravens a couple years ago

as with Jones and most all other "alternates", Maye shouldn't be considered an "all pro" just because he was invited to the game because no one else wanted to go. But he should enjoy it, have fun, and make some connections and perhaps learn something that will improve his game along the way.

Besides it's nothing more than a skills competition and a short flag football game. Given these guys are playing up to 21 games a year, there is no way they should be putting on pads and extra time. Hardly a reward for excellence.

Also, you gotta love people crying over a couple million bucks when we're currently $130 million under the salary cap.

I believe Robert Edwards got injured in a rookie flag football event on the beach, not in the Pro Bowl game itself.
Please don't remind me. Probably the 3rd worst injury in Pats history after Brady in '08 and Gronk I forget the year.
Edwards was good and so were the Pats.
That f'n injury changed all that. He was never the same. **** the Pro Bowl.

Drake will see his teammate Schooler

If the game had stakes and the teams were trying to win, I'm fine with it. They could do something like: every draft pick of the winning conference teams is one slot higher. I'd watch.

I think that was the beginning of the end of the Mac Jones' era....
