It has always been a joke. All the way back to the 60's. You can't really have an all-star type game in football. It's a collision sport. Doing skills competition stuff makes way more sense.
Most real football fans never watched Pro Bowls. They were always a joke. I can't rember last time I watched one. More than 30 years ago at least.
